London experimental duo THELIGHTS smash it with “RUSH”. It’s one of those tracks that kind of creeps up on you. It doesn’t smack you over the head straight away, but the deeper you fall into it, the more it pulls you under. There’s a tension in the way it builds—layered synths, echoed-out vocals, and an atmosphere that feels like it’s always about to burst. It’s electronic music, sure, but not in the typical sense.

There’s something about the vocal delivery that makes it hit even harder. It blends into the mix rather than sitting on top of it, which works really well here. You’re not being told what to feel, but the emotion is in there, buried under the beat. And the beat which is steady and hypnotic keeps everything moving forward. It gives the track its name: RUSH feels like motion, like trying to hold onto something that’s slipping through your fingers.

The duo SLND on lyrics and vocals, and DEETZSCHK handling production and visuals have carved out a pretty unique lane for themselves here. They’ve got clear influences, everything from left-field pop to 90s electronic and even a bit of reggae energy in the rhythm (they’ve cited Chaka Demus & Pliers before), but it’s never a direct lift. What they’re doing is building something new out of the fragments—familiar in feeling, unfamiliar in sound.

From the moment the drums hit, courtesy of the ever-phenomenal Gregg Bissonette, you know you’re in for a ride. The beat is tight, commanding, and immediately danceable. Add in Randy Jacobs’ unmistakable funk guitar — with its perfect balance of grit and precision — and the foundation is set. But what takes this song over the top is Ron Holloway’s masterful saxophone work. His tone is warm and wild, weaving through the rhythm like smoke, adding texture and emotional punch.

Then, there’s Jenny Langer. Her voice is in charge. There’s no hesitation, no second-guessing. With lyrics that draw a line in the sand, she embodies a fierce protector who won’t hesitate to throw down. Indie rock band The Secret Radio are back with their new single, “Swimming Pool On Mars” and it is a bold, atmospheric tune that blends poetic lyrics with sweeping, cinematic soundscapes. It’s out now on all major streaming platforms and stands as a clear highlight from their newly released debut album, “Shortwave”.

Originally formed in Queens, New York back in 2006, The Secret Radio is led by English singer-songwriter Damian Fowler and it features a revolving lineup of international collaborators. Known for fusing diverse influences—from David Bowie and Radiohead to Regina Spektor—their music is a unique mix of experimental and accessible, with a clear artistic vision.

“Swimming Pool On Mars” progresses with vigour with layers of synths, violins, horns, and more rising to a lush, cinematic crescendo. The song features contributions from Bebbo (guitar), Asen Doykin (synths), JungSang Yoo (bass), and Tom Cottone (drums), with production and mixing handled by Doykin. Released on January 31, 2025, the song, which offers a very personal experience, honours the one-year anniversary of her album “Near Life Experience” which came out in 2024.

The track was originally an untitled ghost track from the album and it has been re-recorded with a live band and a string section, bringing a new level of emotional depth. It was produced at Echo Zoo Studios by Henry (King Thumb) Thomas, whose credits include Randy Crawford and Paul Weller, the track blends the ethereal beauty of the original with a fresh, dynamic arrangement.
