Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Chris Lemmon, Son of Legendary Actor, Jack Lemmon, Actor & Author, “A Twist of Lemmon: A Tribute to My Father”.

Chris Lemmon is an actor, producer and author who’s appeared in many movies including “Airport ‘77”, “Seems Like Old Times”, “Uncommon Valor”, “Swing Shift”, “Cannonball Run 2”, “Weekend Warrior”, “Lena’s Holiday”, “Roe vs Wade”, and 2 very special movies, “That’s Life” and “Dad”, in which he appeared with his legendary father, 2-time Academy Award winner Jack Lemmon, who’s been immortalized in movies like “Mr. Roberts”, “Save the Tiger”, “The Apartment”, “Irma LaDouce”, “The Odd Couple”, “The China Syndrome”, “Glengarry Glen Ross”, and of course, the greatest comedy film of all time, “Some Like it Hot”.

In fact, our guest portrayed his father in a re-enactment of his time on the set of “Some Like it Hot”, in the Marilyn Monroe biopic, “Blonde”.

On television, our guest has brought us many memorable roles including “Checko” in “Brothers and Sisters”, “Richard Philips” in “Duet” and “Open House”, “Jeff Cameron” in “Knots Landing”, and “Martin Brubaker”, better known as “Bru”, in “Thunder in Paradise”. On the stage, he’s starred in “Barefoot in the Park”, “Shay”, “Love Letters”, and his highly acclaimed one-man show “Twist of Lemmon”, based on his best-selling, highly compelling and heartwarming 2006 memoir entitled, “A Twist of Lemmon: A Tribute to my Father”.

He also wrote, produced and hosted the wonderful documentary film, “Magic Time”, which is all about the brilliant artistry of Jack Lemmon.

Harvey Brownstone is a retired judge of the Ontario Court of Justice and was the first openly gay judge in Canada. He is also the bestselling author of “Tug of War: A Judge’s Verdict on Separation, Custody Battles and the Bitter Realities of Family Court” and hosted “Family Matters with Justice Harvey Brownstone,” a television talk show on matters involving the family justice system.

After a distinguished legal career, Harvey was appointed a judge at the age of 38 in 1995.  He has presided in family and criminal courts.   He has been a trailblazer in several ways.  He was the first openly gay judge in Canada.  He was the first sitting judge in the world to write a national best seller and to host a TV talk show.

Harvey has been a role model and icon in the LGBTQ community.  When same-sex marriage was legalized in Canada in 2003, he was the only judge to make himself publicly available to officiate at weddings for lesbian and gay couples travelling to Toronto from all over the world to get married.  In 2007, he officiated at the wedding of Edith Windsor and Thea Spyer, the American couple whose marriage triggered the 2013 United States Supreme Court decision overturning the definition of “spouse” in the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

In February 2021, Harvey launched his online talk show “Harvey Brownstone Interviews” on his own YouTube channel. He saw this as an interesting hobby.   Within several months, the show attracted hundreds of thousands – and then eventually, millions – of viewers.  Because of the overwhelming success of the show, Harvey decided to retire from the judiciary on December 31, 2021 after having presided as a full-time judge for 26 1/2 years.  Free from the constraints imposed upon judges regarding the expression of opinions and the endorsement of private enterprise, Harvey now happily devotes his full-time attention to hosting “Harvey Brownstone Interviews” as a regular member of the public – albeit one with a rather illustrious and unique career history.

Greek-British actress Billie Vee has written – and stars in – the psychological thriller ‘Sparrow’s Call’, which is showing at London’s Genesis Cinema on Sunday 21st April. Billie is thrilled that the film, which is directed by Tim Kent, has been officially selected for the London Independent Film Festival as it explores the challenges of being a migrant in this country, a topic that’s close to her heart. Here she talks about growing up in the birthplace of theatre, why she loves writing, and filming her movie during the Covid lockdown.

How did you get started as an actress?

“I was born in Athens, Greece, the birthplace of theatre, and I couldn’t even remotely imagine that years later I would be making films in London. From a very young age I remember being in awe of actors on stage. However it was when my parents took me to the cinema for the first time that I felt completely mesmerised. That’s when I knew I wanted to be an actor and that my biggest dream was to star in an English-language feature film.”

Where did you train?

“I trained at the Greek Art Theatre Karolos Koun and I received my degree in theatre studies from the University of Athens. After graduating, I started working and gaining experience that spanned from TV and film roles and TV presenting to performing on stage, including the ancient open theatre Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Wanting to expand my artistic horizons and learn how to act in English, I moved to London, where I immersed myself into a journey of continuous self-improvement and development of my craft.”

You wrote the screenplay for ‘Sparrow’s Call’ – how did that come about?

“While continuing my career as an actor in London, I felt the urge to pursue my childhood dream of starring in a feature film. That’s how writing came to my life and I started creating my own work. ‘Sparrow’s Call’ (directed by Tim Kent and produced by Alessio Bergamo) is my first feature film as a writer, after having scripted several award-winning short films and a web series.

“When I write something, it comes from inside me, as a need to express something deeper and then it transforms into a work of fiction to entertain an audience, and make them think and feel.”

Where did you get the inspiration for ‘Sparrow’s Call’?

“‘Sparrow’s Call’ is inspired by my personal journey as a generic migrant in London. Being a foreign actor, I was constantly labelled as ‘Greek’ or ‘exotic”, so I took those labels and moulded them into a fictitious character, Val. The only thing that happened for real and that’s depicted in the film is an incident with a sparrow that took place when I was a child in my father’s village. That’s how I came up with the title of the film.”

What’s the plot of the film?

‘Sparrow’s Call’ follows the story of Mike, a successful philosophy lecturer and a family man who is captivated by Val, an exotic dancer, after saving her from danger. When they throw themselves into a rollercoaster of physical and intellectual connection, Mike fears his whole world is about to fall apart and must face the consequences of his affair.I play Val, who’s a migrant from Greece, but her nationality remains obscure throughout the film. She comes from a low socio-economic background, working in the sex industry as an exotic dancer. She is hardened by life and wants to escape from her environment. She lives with her grandmother who is severely paralysed, but whose mind works perfectly well. By a twist of fate, Val meets Mike and falls in love with him, but also sees him as an opportunity to get out of what seems to be a hopeless situation.”

What was it like working on the film set?

“Working on the set of ‘Sparrow’s Call’ was an absolute blast from start to finish. I had the chance to play opposite David Bark-Jones, who brilliantly portrays the character of Mike, and also to work with the wonderful Valerie Colgan, who plays my grandma.”

“All the cast and crew were truly committed to the project, the environment felt safe and the whole set was oozing positive energy, something that was much-needed considering the fact that we were filming during the Covid lockdown.”

Where can we see the film?

“‘Sparrow’s Call has been officially selected for the London Independent Film Festival and will be premiering on 21 April at the Genesis Cinema. It’s highly recommended for those who love twisted psychological thrillers with an existential touch and subtle social commentary.”

Travis Lee Eller is known for appearing in Westerns, but unlike other Hollywood actors he also supplies the costume department with authentic-looking outlaw hats! Originally from North Carolina and now based in LA, Travis started in entertainment as a TV stage manager and since 2012 has appeared in numerous films, many of them Westerns. He also has his own hat-making business, Ugly Outlaw Hats. He wrote and directed the short film ‘The Killer: A Fight in July’, which was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Actress at the Wild Bunch Film Festival 2016. He also wrote and starred in the short film ‘Bad Men And The Devil’, for which he won a Best Actor award and the film won Best Western Short at the Genre Celebration Film Festival 2017. Now Travis is appearing in the TV series ‘Elkhorn’, about Theodore Roosevelt abandoning politics to become a cattleman in the lawless Dakota Badlands; it is available to watch on the INSP network and various streaming platforms from 11 April 2024.

What was it like working on ‘Elkhorn’?

“It was amazing!”

“The entire cast and crew were a pleasure to work with.”

“It was great seeing it all come together, from the audition process to the sets being built and finally to that first moment you hear the director call: ‘Action!’. I loved every minute of it. The Western genre is something I’m extremely interested in and having this opportunity to work in this environment again and tell this particular story got me really excited, especially knowing there’s a true history behind it.”

Can you tell us a bit about your role?

“I play Joe Ferris, who became a dear friend to Teddy Roosevelt. He’s a shopkeeper in the Dakota Territory town of Medora. Joe’s a nice guy, he knows everyone and everything about the town, but at the same time he’s no pushover and is stern when he has to be. He loves his town and wants to see it thrive. He also acts as the town postmaster and bookkeeper for Roosevelt’s business affairs. Joe was an interesting role for me to take on. I was so used to playing a villain in Westerns, that when it was time to be the good guy I had a moment of thinking: ‘How am I going to do this?’ Then I realised how ridiculous that sounded for an actor to say, and I screwed my head on straight again and jumped in.”

Who will enjoy this TV series?

“I hope as many people as possible will tune in. If you’re a history buff, interested in Theodore Roosevelt, or a Westerns fan in general, then ‘Elkhorn’ will be right up your alley. It’s great because there’s so much literature on Teddy Roosevelt and his life as President and conservationist, but there’s not really too much out there to watch. I’ve never seen any show or film about this particular time of his life.”

“I hope viewers have the same interest and sense of discovery I had when learning about this part of his history.”

What have been your favourite projects to date?

“I’ve had a few great projects I’ve been part of, including guest-starring roles on major network shows and lead roles in independent films, but I think some of my favourite roles were in smaller productions in my early pursuit of acting. It was all about the learning experience, and the knowledge I took away from each of those, be it technical or emotional. If I had to pick a film of mine that I really enjoyed doing, it would be the short Western ‘Only God Forgives’, which is available to watch on Amazon Prime.”

What are you up to next?

“Negotiations and auditions are happening, but other than that I’m continuing with my hobby, which is hat-making. I own a small business called Ugly Outlaw Hats, which allows me to stay busy with my hands. It’s also offered me an avenue into film and television, as I’ve made a few hats for various productions, including ‘Elkhorn’.”

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Louis Gossett Jr., Legendary Actor, Author and Humanitarian.

Louis Gossett Jr. is one of our most beloved and respected actors, who’s been thrilling audiences with his iconic performances since he first conquered Broadway at the age of 17 in “Take a Giant Step”, followed by “The Desk Set”, “Golden Boy”, “The Zulu and the Zayda”, and “My Sweet Charlie”. He also starred on Broadway in “A Raisin in the Sun”, and then made his film debut in the 1961 movie adaptation of the play.

His unforgettable portrayal of “Fiddler” in the groundbreaking miniseries “Roots” earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding lead actor. And of course, who can ever forget him as Sgt. Emil Foley in “An Officer and a Gentleman”, for which he won the 1983 Academy Award AND Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor, making him the first Black actor to win in that category.

Besides his Emmy Award for Roots, he received 7 more Emmy Award nominations for his work in “The Sentry Collection Presents Ben Vereen: His Roots”, “Backstairs at the White House”, “Palmerstown, USA”, “A Gathering of Old Men”, “Touched By an Angel”, “Watchmen” and “Sadat”, for which he was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

Louis Gossett Jr. got another Golden Globe Award nomination for his performance in “The Josephine Baker Story”. He’s had 3 Daytime Emmy Award nominations, and won the award for Best Children’s Special, for “In His Father’s Shoes”.

He’s been nominated 6 times for NAACP Image Awards and won twice. In 1992, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We also got  to see him in his latest role, as “Mister” in the musical film version of “The Color Purple”.

In addition to his illustrious acting career, Louis Gossett Jr. is an accomplished writer, producer, director and musician – and perhaps most importantly, he’s a social activist, educator and humanitarian, dedicated to eliminating racism and fighting injustice wherever it exists, in all its forms.

In 2010 he released his riveting memoir entitled “An Actor and a Gentleman,” chronicling not only the many triumphs of his monumental career, but also the heartbreaking and sometimes insurmountable obstacles he confronted and overcame as a working actor, and especially as a Black man in America.

In 2006, he founded The Eracism Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating racism, fostering cultural diversity, historical enrichment, education and anti-violence initiatives.

British actor Alexis Rodney had the time of his life playing an enigmatic lawyer in the new series ‘The Gentleman’, based on Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name. The series – which launches on Netflix on Thursday 7 March – introduces a new set of characters led by Eddie, an aristocrat with a weed farm, played by ‘The White Lotus’’s Theo James. The star-studded cast also includes Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Giancarlo Esposito, Joely Richardson and Ritchie favourite, Vinnie Jones. Alexis, whose previous credits include ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ and ‘Willow’, shares some behind-the-scenes secrets.

Tell us about your role in ‘The Gentlemen’.

“I play Emory Stevens, often referred to quite simply as Stevens. Stevens is introduced in the series as an American lawyer, who also moonlights as a personal assistant to a very powerful man. He’s a calm and enigmatic figure, a bit of a modern-day Renaissance man, a jack of all trades, if you will, who is as au fait with decanting wine as he would be dissecting an enemy.”

What was it like working with Guy Ritchie?

“In 1998 I went to the cinema to see Guy’s first film, ‘Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels’. It was a seminal film, moving the needle from traditional, British kitchen-sink dramas, to a more fresh and exciting storytelling that appealed to the international film community. I made a promise to myself at the time that I would one day work with Guy Ritchie, and some 20 years and loose change later, I finally achieved that dream. Guy is the epitome of a British gentleman: knowledgeable, playful and seemingly as excited about filmmaking as he was all those years ago. He doesn’t over-direct, but when he needs to give actors adjustments, they make complete sense. All in all, a pleasure to work with.”

Was it a fun set to work on?

“Starting work on any project always has the feeling of the first day of school, but when the dust settled on this job it was a wonder to behold. So many great creatives under one roof, all pulling their weight for the greater good.”

“Everyone was in good spirits, both on and off the set, which obviously makes such a huge difference in the work environment.”

“I can’t stress enough just how lovely everyone was. This job will live long in my memory.”

Who will enjoy watching ‘The Gentlemen’?

“The show seamlessly mixes the world of blue-collar and silver-spoon crime, to give audiences a unique, high-octane, high-fashion drama, with a lot of comedy too.

“Ultimately ‘The Gentlemen’ is a show about roles and duties within the family hierarchy, and how families come together when the vultures circle.”

“I would recommend it to anyone who’s the right age to watch it! It’s a truly bonkers adventure.”

What have been your other favourite roles to date?

“I’m grateful to have had a wide variety of roles. The film ‘Buffalo Soldiers’ (2001) with Joaquin Phoenix is special to me, as it was my first international film and  of course I was working with one of the best actors of our time. I’ve since gone on to act in the Marvel Universe as Moloka Dar in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2014), Simon Peter in the Ridley Scott drama ‘Killing Jesus’ (2015), Arris in another Ridley Scott-produced film, ‘Halo Nightfall’, Tebbe in the Amazon-produced series ‘Outlander’, Lachlan in the Disney reboot of ‘Willow’ (2022), Darren Thompson in HBO series ‘Pennyworth’ and, last but not least, I’m in the soon-to-be-released horror film ‘The Piper’ (2024), from Icelandic filmmaker Erlingur Óttar Thoroddsen.”

She also guest starred on the most popular TV shows including “Mork & Mindy”, “Roseanne”, “Friends”, “Happy Days”, “The Bob Newhart Show”, “Police Woman”, “Kojak”, “Murder, She Wrote”, and dozens more. She’s appeared in some great miniseries including “The Dream Merchants”, “Too Old to Die Young” and “North and South, Parts 1 and 2”.

And most recently, she co-starred with Donna Mills, Nicolette Sheridan, and 2 friends who recently appeared on the show, Loni Anderson and Linda Gray, in a delightful TV movie entitled, “Ladies of the 80s: A Divas Christmas”, co-written by Stan Zimmerman, who appeared on the show last week.

On stage, our Morgan Fairchild starred in the off-Broadway play “Geniuses”, which was named by Time Magazine and the New York Times as one of the top 10 plays of 1983. But Morgan Fairchild is much, much more than a talented, beautiful and glamorous Hollywood star.

She’s an extremely dedicated and highly respected humanitarian. She’s been in the forefront as an outspoken and dedicated advocate in the fight against AIDS, the pro-choice movement and many environmental issues. In fact, she helped found the Environmental Communications Office, which fosters education and activism among entertainment industry professionals.

And somehow, on top of everything else she’s done, she found time in the 80’s to write a book providing beauty tips, and she’s also on the Board of Directors of SAG-AFTRA.

Natalya Tsvetkova is a Russian born actress and producer who plays one of the lead roles in the upcoming movie ‘DarkGame’. She is acting opposite well known ‘Gossip Girl’ TV series star Ed Westwick. DarkGame is a dark thriller. DarkGame is out in the US on Feb 20th on all major VOD platforms like Apple, Amazon, and is being released in the UK in late March (date TBC), with other countries following on or around then too.

Natalya, can you please tell us about your beginnings in the film industry and best projects to date?

I am an actress and producer based in the UK. Originally from Yekaterinburg in Russia, I spent 10 years in Moscow pursuing my career ambitions, prior to making the move to England.

My love for film began at an early age. Even as a child I was experimenting with video cameras and making short movies with my sisters.

“Even though I went on to study Law at University, it was clear to me that cinema, and especially acting, was my true calling.”

I also knew I wanted to develop my acting and language skills so I could eventually work on English language films. I grew up watching all these amazing films that fired my imagination, and I knew I wanted to achieve something similar for my life.
During my time in Moscow, I kept building on my experience, attending acting classes and splitting my time working as an actress with producing commercials and helping organise an annual film festival in Rostov. While in Moscow, I was cast in numerous TV commercials, I also had a lead role in an eight-episode TV series, Moscow Decameron, and appeared in the award-winning feature film Conference, as well as producing and taking lead roles in short films such as Texting Life, Theatre Not For Everyone, Never Believe.

Pursuing my dream to work in English language film and TV, I spent some time in the US, attending acting classes there and appearing in short films (The Enforcer, Shadow). This led to opportunities to work behind the scenes on some English language projects, the feature film “Becoming” and TV series “The Pact”, which also led to me being cast in a role in that series.

More recently, I appear as one of the leads in Brief Encounters, a multinational feature film that weaves four stories together. I produced the Russian set part of the story, and am one of the leads, playing opposite Louis Mandylor. The final chapter is being filmed this spring and the film will be released towards the end of 2024.

You are one of the lead actresses of the upcoming film ‘DarkGame’. Can you tell us more about your work and behind the scenes experience?

In “Darkgame,” I play a Russian woman, Katya, who moved to America with her son, having escaped an abusive relationship, only to find herself in a worse situation. She is one of several people abducted and placed into a deadly reality game show.

“As one of the producers of the film, I was involved in the development of the story, so I could inject elements into the character that I wanted to explore. “

My nephew was inspiration for the character having a son of that age. It was interesting for me to play a character that had everything to live for, not just for herself but because her son had no one else. She had been through a lot but because of what she had been through she turns out to be one of the best placed to cope with the situation they are in.

The shoot was exhilarating,…and cold! The DarkGame set was as chilling as it appears on screen. The crew were amazing, bringing hot water bottles to the cast inbetween takes.

What was your experience working on set with Ed Westwick?

Ed was wonderful to work with. He was so well prepared, and he is an extremely focused actor. I was a little nervous before my first scene with him, but he’s such a professional and so relaxed that I was very at ease working with him.

Tell us about your work and projects as an executive producer?

I’ve always enjoyed producing as well as acting, I especially enjoy having input on the story and helping organise the financial part of the process, on projects that I have helped develop. Of course, being part of the producing team at this stage allows me to develop the kind of roles and characters that I think I will also enjoy playing.

Separately, I also sometimes work behind the scenes to help other films get financed, as an Executive Producer.

Who do you suggest to see the film ‘DarkGame’ and where can the audience watch the film?

DarkGame is a dark thriller rather than a horror. The film has several layers and strands to it. On the surface it is a gripping and tense thriller. Ed is the detective on the case, racing against time to uncover where these people are being held, whilst my character is the audiences viewpoint on being in the game.

But the film is also making  a comment on society’s fascination with reality TV, and how social media can also sometimes be used to propagate and share peoples suffering. So I feel it has a wide audience – from fans of Squid Game to detective thrillers such as Seven.0.
