The retro rock band THE AMERICAN RELICS performed “The Eyes of 1969” during the Woodstock anniversary segment with members John Gitano, Neal Lazar, Adrienne Dugger, Patty Jarman, Bill Gulino, Nelson Mantana and John McCann. Composer Randy Edelman opened the entire show with his performance of his “A Thanksgiving Prayer”. Randy is credited for scoring over 100 film and television soundtracks (My Cousin Vinny, Last of the Mohicans, MacGyver). John “SohoJohnny” Pasquale the President of the Tribeca Record Label also gave a speech.

Randy has more than 100 films to his credit making him one of the most prolific composers in history. He is a dazzling pianist whose fingers wander around the keyboard with impressive speed, wild accuracy, and a golden heart. His breathtaking soundtracks include: My Cousin Vinny, Dragonheart, Gettysburg, Ghostbusters ll, Kindergarten Cop, Last of the Mohicans (which earned him a Golden Globe nomination) and so many more. As a lyricist Randy paints vivid scenes with developed characters and has an unparalleled variety in vocabulary….pure and powerful and very romantic. His words are as catchy as humanly possible. In just one song he can make you feel joy, laughter, and sadness. If you want to really get to know Randy …just listen. 

First impressions are meant to impress. Aside from gaining interest or admiration impress also means to imprint or leave a permanent mark behind. As a storyteller Randy does all of those things. At its core, Randy’s stories encourage his listener’s imagination as do his songs. A good story whether within a song or an interview is more than a romanticized tale about a life lived, but rather knits together polarity, spaces, emotions, conflicts and impacts and transforms it into something visible and tangible. There is that human element in every song, story, and musical score that Randy envisions and creates. 

It was no surprise that after the 40 minute interview hosts Mr. Excitement and Big Murph asked that he come back again. There were so many questions left to discuss regarding Randy’s incredible career that time wouldn’t allow. They touched on his encounters with the hip hop community and his hit song “Isn’t it a Shame”, recorded by Patti LaBelle and then became a huge splash when hip hop superstar Nelly recorded it as “My Place.” 

Executive producer and Hospitality Manager Dawn Michelle made sure that a keyboard was handy (as well as homemade baked ziti and a strawberry cake). A true professional Dawn has been in this industry for more than a minute and knows her stuff.

On the way out,  Randy connected with Eban Brown from the iconic group the Stylistics and The fraction Black Ivory….
