Atlanta, GA – OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network hosted a launch celebration last night for its upcoming relationship drama, “Cherish the Day”, created and executive produced by Emmy winner/Academy Award nominee Ava DuVernay (“Queen Sugar,” “When They See Us”). The evening affair welcomed DuVernay, series stars Xosha Roquemore (“The Mindy Project”) and Alano Miller (“Underground”,) and additional cast including Michael Beach, Anne-Marie Johnson and Kellee Stewart.

Tina Perry (President, OWN) and Peter Roth (President & Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Television) opened with remarks welcoming other executives such as Susan Rovner (President, Warner Bros. Television & Co-President of Warner Horizon Scripted Television) and Carla Gardini (EVP, Harpo Films) among other talent and tastemakers for a night about the town in Atlanta, GA at The Stave Room.

Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker) returns from Alcatraz after an eleven year absence to reunite with his family and reclaim his Harlem territory from Italian mob boss Vincent “Chin” Gigante (Vincent D’Onofrio). He finds an unlikely ally in his old friend Malcolm X.

GODFATHER OF HARLEM is inspired by the true story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from eleven years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control. During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X (Nigél Thatch) – catching Malcolm’s political rise in the crosshairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart. Staying true to his word, the veteran emcee, who has seen his fair share of reinvention in years past has officially begun to usher in this new chapter, previously making an appearance at the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration alongside Gospel recording artists like Tye Tribbett and The Clark Sisters, all set to appear on the project.

Most recently, he’s dropped off the first deliverable to come of his forthcoming Bible of Love in the form of a music video for the 32-track double album’s closer, “Words Are Few.”

Featuring B. Slade, the video isn’t lacking thematically as Snoop sings out his transparent lyrics: “I’m not where I’m supposed to be / Sitting here smoking trees / When I should be on my knees / When my words are few.”

Ed Sheeran has scored a sixth week at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with Perfect.

The singer-songwriter remains locked at the top, securing the most downloads and streams of the week. Ed’s closest competition was himself (partly) for a second week in a row, as his Eminem collaboration River holds firm at Number 2. In doing so, Ed has now broken the record for most weeks spent at Number 1 and 2 concurrently, with 14 weeks.

Rita Ora rebounds one slot to Number 3 with Anywhere, ahead of Ramz’ Barking, up four to Number 4, and Clean Bandit’s I Miss You featuring Julia Michaels completes the Top 5.

Bruno Mars’s remix of Finesse featuring Cardi B becomes his 11th UK Top 10 single and first in over a year at Number 7, while Craig David is also new in the Top 10 this week – I Know You ft. Bastille earns Craig a 14th Top 10 and Bastille a third.

Not3s’ My Lover climbs five rungs to Number 18 to mark his first footing in the UK Top 20, while two more songs from The Greatest Showman soundtrack make their mark – The Greatest Show at Number 23, and Rewrite The Stars pops in at Number 26.

J Hus’ Bouff Daddy (27), Camila Cabello’s Never Be The Same (29), and Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man (32) reach new peaks, and there’s more good news for Kendrick Lamar and SZA; their Black Panther soundtrack single All The Stars debuts at Number 33.

Cardi also won five BET awards this year as well as two Grammy nominations. Those BET wins included both best new hip-hop artist and Hustler of the Year. The star recently spoke out her massive success and explained where her super strong work ethic came from.

In addition to a busy work year, Cardi also had some great news in her personal life. The star got engaged to Migos’ Offset and received a $550,000 custom diamond ring. Migos were also Grammy nominated this year for “Bad and Boujee.” Cardi said that she and Offset might move to Atlanta because they want a “big crazy” house.

The full clip is out of Tidal on the 29th in the States (so the 30th for us future-dwellers), so we might be able to see it in the rest of the internet sometime in 2018 I guess.

A highly accomplished musician, concert performer, songwriter, actor, and music and film producer, Legend is one of the most versatile and talented artists in entertainment today. In 2015, he, along with Common, won the Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy for their song “Glory” from the film “Selma,” which chronicled the 1965 civil rights march in Selma, Ala. Legend, who has released five studio albums, began his impressive Grammy run in 2006 when he won Best New Artist for his debut release “Get Lifted,” which captured Best R&B Album. “Get Lifted,” along with each of his next three albums – “Once Again,” “Evolver” and “Love in the Future” – reached the Top 5 in album sales on the Billboard charts and achieved gold status. The “Jesus Christ Superstar” album hit #1 on the Billboard charts and made its way to the stage in 1971. It is based on the final week of Jesus’ life. The 1971 musical opened at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on Broadway and starred Jeff Fenholt as Jesus and Ben Vereen as Judas. It was nominated for five Tonys, including Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for Vereen. Lloyd Webber won a Drama Desk Award for Most Promising Composer. Since then, the musical has been considered a classic and has become a staple of theatre and music organizations throughout the world. It has been performed in nearly 20 countries and translated into 18 different languages. There have been many revivals of “Jesus Christ Superstar” over the 46 years since its debut, including 2000 and 2012 Broadway versions that each earned a Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Musical. The 1973 film was directed by Oscar winner Norman Jewison and starred Ted Neeley. “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert!” will be produced by Universal Television, The Really Useful Group, Marc Platt Productions and Zadan/Meron Productions.

After hearing that the Fields family of Washington DC was struggling to make ends meet after the mother was diagnosed with cancer and the father lost his job, Wall surprised them with $1,000 worth of groceries, tickets to a Wizards game, AND tuition to the twins’ private school.

“I lost my dad at the age of nine to cancer, so I know how it is to deal with a parent battling and trying to survive,” Wall said. “Hearing their mom was going through that, I wanted to help.”

Wall shared the surprise at a private screening of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which he hosted for 200 underprivileged children earlier this month. One of the film’s stars, Kevin Hart, even gave the crowd a shoutout:

Between this and giving each of his teammates a Rolex watch, John Wall is the real Santa this season. Nobody tell Colin Cowherd.
