Bille August Brings New Film ‘Me, You’ to the Rome Film Festival
Danish master Bille August has debuted his latest feature, Me, You, at the Rome Film Festival this week, presenting the film to audiences at one of the major stops on the European festival calendar.
The film is an adaptation of a novel by Erri De Luca, the celebrated Italian author known for prose that is concise and evocative. August describes the narrative as a story centered on purity and vulnerability — an intimate human drama rather than spectacle, and a meeting of Danish filmmaking sensibility with Italian storytelling.
August remains one of the most decorated directors in world cinema: he is one of the few filmmakers to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes twice, for Pelle the Conqueror and The Best Intentions, and Pelle also won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. A late-career turn toward a delicate literary adaptation underlines the range of a director who has worked at the highest level of international cinema for four decades.
The Rome screening marks the moment Me, You enters the public sphere, as the production begins its life with audiences and the wider festival circuit.

Beth de Araújo Wins Breakthrough Director Award at Montclair for ‘Josephine’
The Montclair Film Festival has named Beth de Araújo its 2026 Breakthrough Director, honoring the filmmaker on Sunday, October 18 at The Bellevue Theatre following a screening of her new film, Josephine.
In presenting the award, the festival praised de Araújo’s “compassionate and deeply felt exploration of trauma, humanity, and the responsibilities that bind us to one another” — the qualities that have marked her rise as one of the most closely watched American directors of her generation.
De Araújo first drew major attention as the writer and director of Soft & Quiet, her blistering debut feature, which premiered at SXSW and earned her a place on year-end lists and awards ballots for breakthrough filmmaking. Josephine is her second feature, and the Montclair honor — part of the festival’s annual Honors program, which this year also salutes Ava DuVernay and Tony Gilroy — confirms her standing as a director whose work travels.
The 14th Montclair Film Festival runs October 16–25 in Montclair, New Jersey.
