Carver Panthers Show Their Pride Behind a Shutout Win and a Young Core

Every rebuild has a night that shows everybody what is coming, and for the Carver Panthers, that night was a 35-0 shutout of Redan. The Panthers pitched a perfect defensive game, controlled the night from start to finish, and gave their Atlanta community a glimpse of the program’s future.

That future is young, and it is talented. Junior wide receiver and cornerback Carey Fletcher leads Carver’s passing game at 48.8 receiving yards per game, a two-way playmaker the Panthers can build around. On defense, sophomore Donnell Johnson, who plays running back and middle linebacker, leads the team at 6.3 tackles per game.

The Panthers’ pass rush has teeth, too. Junior Robert Martin III and senior Michael Springer have three sacks apiece, giving Carver pressure off the edge and up the middle.

The ground game has its own young star. Sophomore running back Jayden Bryant leads the Panthers at 50.0 rushing yards per game and has scored three total touchdowns, while sophomore Jeremiah Jones has added two rushing scores of his own. When a team’s leading receiver, leading rusher and leading tackler are all underclassmen, the future is not a promise. It is already on the field, making plays every Friday night.

The secondary makes plays, too. Junior cornerback Demarcus Stalls has intercepted two passes and recorded two sacks this season, the kind of versatile defender who can change a game from anywhere on the field. Across the roster, Carver’s stat leaders are juniors and sophomores, which means every snap this fall is an investment in a very bright future.

There have been hard lessons along the way, including a 20-8 loss to Miller Grove, but that is how young teams grow. The Panthers keep showing up, keep competing, and keep stacking experience that will pay off.

Carver football has a proud history in Atlanta. With a shutout win in the bank and a young core making plays on both sides of the ball, these Panthers are working to write the next chapter.

Miller Grove Wolverines Hunting a Strong Finish After a Season of Fights

The Miller Grove Wolverines opened their season with a statement, and they have been fighting ever since. A 31-0 shutout of Chamblee in the opener showed what this Lithonia team can be, and the Wolverines have spent the fall proving that night was no fluke.

Miller Grove owns a 35-6 road win at McNair and a 20-8 win at Carver in Atlanta, victories built on defense and toughness. Look at those three wins together and a pattern emerges: Chamblee scored zero, McNair scored six and Carver scored eight. When the Wolverines win, they win with a defense that gives up almost nothing, and that identity travels anywhere. At 3-4, with 131 points scored and 135 allowed, nearly every Wolverines game this season has been a genuine fight, decided by which team made the plays late.

That includes the tough nights. The Wolverines fell 42-10 to a strong Columbia team on October 16 and dropped a 28-21 heartbreaker at M.L. King in an all-DeKalb battle earlier this season. Those are the kinds of games a program learns from.

That defensive identity is worth repeating, because it is rare: across their three wins, the Wolverines have allowed a total of 14 points. Fourteen. In an era of spread offenses and video-game scores, Miller Grove wins the old-fashioned way, with tackling, discipline and a defense that takes points personally. That travels in November, and it gives the Wolverines a real chance in every game left on the schedule.

The closing stretch gives Miller Grove every chance to finish the right way. South Atlanta visits on Friday, October 23, then the Wolverines travel to Cedar Grove on October 30 before closing at home against Redan.

Three games, three chances to turn a season of fights into a winning finish. In Lithonia, the Wolverines and their families have every reason to believe that is exactly what happens next.
