Ghanaian Gospel artistes are bleeding? Dr Sonnie Badu advocates for his Peeps
Ghanaian Gospel minister Dr. Sonnie Badu highlighted a major issue affecting Ghanaian gospel artistes, discouraging them from organizing gospel concerts.
In an interview with host Paul Adom-Otchere on his Good Evening Ghana’s Show Live on Metro TV, he explained that gospel artistes face significant financial and emotional challenges. After these difficulties, many artistes feel discouraged and reluctant to organize future concerts.
During the interview, monitored by blogger Skbeatz Records, Sonnie Badu emphasized the struggles gospel artistes encounter when their organized concerts fall short of expectations due to lack of sponsorships.
He also discussed his personal experience, mentioning that he did not seek support from churches during his church tour for the Live In Concert – RHYTHMS OF AFRICA event. According to him, the church’s involvement in the gospel fraternity often leads to financial pressures and expectations.
Sonnie Badu shared that, despite not receiving invitations from churches, he embarked on a church tour to connect with them. Some pastors supported him, while others chose not to. He cautioned against seeking support from churches, as it might be perceived as exploiting the gospel for financial gain.
Revealing the challenges he faced, Dr. Badu disclosed that individuals who promised to support failed to deliver, forcing him to personally sponsor 98% of the event. He mentioned spending 3,000.00 to 4,000.00 Ghanaian Cedis daily on logistics for his crew and the team members.
As a seasoned figure in the gospel fraternity, Dr. Sonnie Badu highlighted the lack of support as a significant factor contributing to the downfall and disappearance of many gospel artistes.
