Cross Drops 28 as Bayshore Holds Off Harbor City

February 4, 2026 · Tampa, FL · By We Speak Media

Jaylen Cross didn’t need a full season to make his mark in Tampa. He needed one winter. Bayshore Prep’s sophomore wing averaged 17.9 points a game, earned All-County Second Team honors, and carried the Panthers through the toughest stretch of their schedule — scoring at all three levels and guarding the other team’s best player every night.

His best night came on the road at Harbor City: a career-high 28 points with 7 rebounds and 5 assists in a 71–64 win, 16 of them after halftime as Bayshore closed the game out. It capped a sophomore season that built in exactly the right direction — from 11.4 a game as a freshman to 17.9 as a sophomore, with the efficiency rising instead of falling.

The Journey

In Tampa, Florida, basketball isn’t background noise. It’s Friday night. It’s the gym filling up an hour before tip.

And for the last two winters, it’s been a kid getting taller by the season, giving college coaches a reason to find the place on a map. Jaylen Cross arrived on varsity as a freshman wearing No. 7 — a 6’2”, 160-pound guard who started on varsity and averaged 11.4 points before he could drive himself to practice.

By the next fall he had grown two inches and added 22 pounds. The game grew with him: 17.9 points per game, 41 three-pointers, a career-high 28 against Harbor City, and a winning season for the Panthers. Two years in, he already has 739 career points — and hasn’t touched his ceiling.

What sets Cross apart isn’t just the scoring — it’s the profile. A legitimate 6’4” wing who shoots 81% from the line and carries a 3.8 GPA, he’s the kind of player Tampa doesn’t produce often. With 739 career points through two seasons, the 1,000-point mark is a matter of when, not if. The question coaches are starting to ask is a different one: how good does this get?

What They’re Saying

“Jaylen guards the other team’s best player and still gives you 18. Sophomores are not supposed to do both. He does.”

Marcus Bell · Head Coach, Bayshore Prep

“The length is real and the jumper is real. What separates him is he wants the hard assignment.”

Chris Alvarez · Director, Tampa Bay Titans
