Maleek Lee’s Three Sacks Lead Palmetto’s 37-0 Shutout of Sumner for the District Title

Maleek Lee Palmetto Player of the Game

Palmetto’s defense owned Friday night, and senior defensive lineman Maleek Lee owned the line of scrimmage.

Lee recorded three sacks as the Tigers shut out Sumner 37-0 to claim the Class 5A District 10 championship — a title-game performance from a player who arrived at Palmetto this season and immediately became the anchor of its front.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Lee, a four-star prospect committed to Georgia Tech, transferred from Sarasota Booker for his senior year. On the biggest night of Palmetto’s season, he played like it: living in the Sumner backfield and setting the tone for a defense that never let the Stingrays find the end zone.

District championships are won in the trenches, and Lee made sure this one was. We Speak Sports names Maleek Lee our Player of the Game.

D'Andre Hennix Mays Raiders win graphic

Benjamin E. Mays has a new star, and Friday night he owned the biggest stage in Atlanta high school football.

Sophomore wide receiver D’Andre Hennix caught three touchdown passes — including the game-winner in the second overtime — as Mays outlasted Southwest DeKalb 34-31 at William Buck Godfrey Stadium to stay perfect on the season.

The Raiders trailed 21-7 before storming back, and every time Mays needed a play, it went to No. 15. Hennix’s final catch ended it in double overtime, and he was named the game’s Robbie Hunter Most Valuable Player.

Hennix receives the Robbie Hunter MVP award after the win — the broadcast graphic credits him with 3 touchdown receptions, including the game-winner in overtime.

Mays improves to 8-0 — building on the program’s first 7-0 start since 2015 — while Southwest DeKalb, led by senior quarterback Braylon Carter, falls to 4-5 after pushing the unbeaten Raiders to the brink.

Hennix is only a sophomore (class of 2029), and the college attention has already arrived: the three-star receiver holds offers from Florida State and Georgia Tech. Friday night showed everybody why.

We Speak Sports names D’Andre Hennix our Player of the Game.
