Seahawks’ Charles Cross Dealing with Ankle Injury Ahead of Bears Game

Published

on

The Seattle Seahawks suddenly have a question mark at one of the most important positions on the field.

Left tackle Charles Cross went down in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s 20-3 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, and his status for Seattle’s next game, a Monday night matchup with the Chicago Bears on Nov. 2, is uncertain.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Cross has a high-ankle sprain and that the hope is he can return in one to two weeks, depending on his rehab. Cross left the game before Emanuel Wilson’s touchdown made it 20-3, and Josh Jones replaced him.

Head coach Mike Macdonald has not confirmed that timeline. Macdonald described the injury only as an ankle injury, said the team has not discussed injured reserve, and declined to confirm a high-ankle sprain. On the reported diagnosis, Macdonald said it “didn’t come from me or our trainer,” and the team is taking Cross’s recovery day by day.

Cross has been a fixture up front since Seattle drafted him in the first round in 2022, starting all 69 games he has played. His absence would end that streak and test a line that had already been under scrutiny. Seattle had allowed five sacks in each of its two games before the Kansas City win.

If Cross cannot go, Jones is the next man up. He has 27 career starts and filled in for Cross for two starts in 2025 with solid results.

There was better news elsewhere for Seattle. Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed left the Chiefs game with a knee injury, but Macdonald said the “early returns are positive.” Running back Jadarian Price is also set to practice this week after being designated for return from injured reserve.

This week’s practice reports will say more than any press conference. If Cross practices fully by Friday, the injury becomes a footnote. If not, Seattle will learn quickly whether its protection issues are behind it.

Help Is Coming: Steelers’ Injured Reinforcements Nearing Return After the Bye

The Pittsburgh Steelers have spent the last month winning games with an incomplete roster. The cavalry is finally in sight.

Wide receiver Roman Wilson and defensive tackle Derrick Harmon are nearing the end of their required four-game stays on injured reserve, and Pittsburgh’s upcoming bye week falls at the perfect time to welcome them back. The Steelers play once more in Week 8 before the bye gives their returning players an extra week to get ready.

Pittsburgh has weathered the absences well, beating the teams it was supposed to beat, including the New Orleans Saints 16-10 in the NFL’s first game in Paris. But the holes have been real. At receiver, the Steelers lost Michael Pittman Jr. to injured reserve in Week 5 after he aggravated a foot injury, and Wilson went down with a finger injury in the second half of that same week and landed on IR as well. Rookie Germie Bernard has been asked to carry a bigger role behind DK Metcalf ever since.

Not every return is on schedule. Reports indicate there is a chance Pittman misses the rest of the season, and defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day’s return timeline remains unknown. But Wilson and Harmon would restore two rotation pieces at positions where Pittsburgh has been stretching its depth for a month.

Head coach Mike McCarthy likes where his roster stands as the reinforcements approach.

“We’ve got the right guys,” McCarthy said during his weekly press conference. “We’ve got a really great mix of veterans and young guys, and you’re just seeing it come together.”

The Steelers built their record without some of their best young players. If Wilson and Harmon come off the bye at full strength, the team that takes the field for the second half of the season will be deeper than the one that survived the first half.
