SEC Volleyball: Florida Sits Alone on Top as Tennessee Outlasts Kentucky in Five-Set Classic
Florida (7-1 SEC, 16-2) leads the SEC volleyball race after Tennessee’s five-set win over Kentucky reshuffled the top of the standings. Standings, Players of the Week and stat leaders through October 23.
The SEC volleyball race has a clear leader heading into the final Sunday of October — and a traffic jam right behind her.
Florida sits alone at the top of the conference standings at 7-1 in league play and 16-2 overall, riding a three-match win streak after sweeping LSU 3-0 on Friday night in Gainesville. The Gators are unbeaten at home this season (8-0) and own the league’s most suffocating defense, holding opponents to a .161 hitting percentage — the best mark in the SEC by a wide margin.
The result that shook up the top of the table came Wednesday night in Knoxville, where Tennessee outlasted Kentucky in five sets, 3-2, handing the Wildcats their second conference loss. Kentucky (7-2 SEC, 15-4 overall) now looks up at Florida, while the Lady Vols (6-2, 15-3) have won six straight and pulled level with Vanderbilt (6-2, 15-2) and Georgia (6-2, 14-4) in a three-way tie for third. Vanderbilt has also won six in a row and owns the SEC’s most efficient offense, hitting .303 as a team.
Friday’s slate only tightened the middle of the pack. Texas A&M went into Athens and beat Georgia 3-1 to move to 5-3, Missouri won its fourth straight with a sweep at South Carolina, Mississippi State blanked Oklahoma 3-0, Auburn swept Ole Miss, and Arkansas edged Alabama in five sets.
Players of the Week
Kentucky setter Kassie O’Brien swept the SEC Player of the Week and Setter of the Week honors presented by Allstate, running the Wildcat offense at 13.00 assists per set across two road wins. O’Brien dished out 50 assists against Oklahoma and 41 more in a sweep of Arkansas, passing the 2,000-assist mark for her career along the way. She leads the conference at 11.62 assists per set this season.
Georgia senior Bianna Muoneke and Kentucky senior Brooklyn DeLeye shared Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. Muoneke averaged 6.13 kills per set and hit .440 across two road wins, piling up 30 kills at LSU to become the 21st member of Georgia’s 1,000-Kill Club. She leads the SEC in both kills (5.08 per set) and points (5.65 per set). DeLeye hit a blistering .593 for the weekend and, with six aces, moved into first place on Kentucky’s all-time aces list with 120.
Florida middle blocker Alec Rothe and Kentucky opposite Morgan Gaerte took Co-Defensive honors after each piled up 14 blocks across two road wins. Rothe added a career-high 17 kills at No. 12 Texas, while Gaerte posted a career-high nine blocks at Oklahoma. Texas outside hitter Henley Anderson was named Freshman of the Week after recording double-doubles against both Auburn and Florida.
By the Numbers
Vanderbilt’s Kayla Dunlap owns the SEC’s top hitting percentage at .464, just ahead of Rothe at .441. Texas A&M’s Eliza Sharp leads the league in blocking at 1.35 per set, with Georgia’s Kendal Kemp and Rothe close behind at 1.31. DeLeye’s 0.52 aces per set pace the conference, and Mississippi State — digging 15.63 balls per set — remains the SEC’s hardest team to put a ball away against on the floor.
Sunday’s Slate
The weekend closes with a loaded Sunday schedule: Texas A&M at Kentucky on ABC, Vanderbilt at Tennessee in a battle of six-match win streaks, Missouri at Georgia, Ole Miss at Florida, Texas at South Carolina, LSU at Auburn, Oklahoma at Alabama, and Arkansas at Mississippi State. By Sunday night, the logjam behind Florida could look very different.

Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias Brings His Classic VW Buses to LA Auto Show Industry Day
The LA Auto Show is adding some serious star power to Industry Day. Comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias will showcase five hand-selected classic Volkswagen buses from his famous personal collection at AutoMobility LA, the show’s industry and media day, on Thursday, November 19, and he will host meet-and-greets with attendees.
If you know Fluffy, you know the buses are no gimmick. Iglesias is one of the most devoted Volkswagen collectors in entertainment: his collection runs to nearly 30 classic buses, valued at around $3 million, and lives in a garage he calls the Fluffy Museum. It all started with his first car, a VW bus, and the obsession never left. He recently walked Ford CEO Jim Farley through the collection and the stories behind it on Ford’s DRIVE podcast.
For anyone who somehow missed him: Iglesias is one of the most successful stand-up comedians on the planet. His Netflix specials, including I’m Sorry for What I Said When I Was Hungry and Stadium Fluffy, made him the first comedian to sell out Dodger Stadium. He starred in the Netflix sitcom Mr. Iglesias and has voiced characters in Coco, Ferdinand and The Book of Life. A Fluffy appearance at an auto show is exactly where entertainment and car culture meet.
Industry Day will have plenty more on the floor. Attendees can see vehicles including the Chevy Silverado, the Rivian R2 and the Nissan Rogue, and get behind the wheel at Camp Jeep and Bronco Mountain, with test rides and drives running through the day.
The LA Auto Show says more entertainment news is coming soon, and media registration for Industry Day credentials is now open. We Speak Media will be following every announcement.
