Vilma Santos Makes History as First Actress Inducted Into Star Awards Hall of Fame
Philippine cinema’s “Star for All Seasons” is about to make history one more time. Vilma Santos-Recto will become the first actress ever inducted into the PMPC Star Awards for Movies Hall of Fame when the Philippine Movie Press Club stages its 42nd Star Awards for Movies on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the Winford Resort and Casino Manila.
The Hall of Fame distinction is reserved for performers who have won their category ten times or more, and Santos-Recto earned hers with at least ten Movie Actress of the Year victories across a career that has defined Philippine film for decades. She joins two fellow inductees: National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee, honored as Movie Screenwriter of the Year, and veteran sound engineer Albert Michael Idioma, the “king of sound,” honored for his sixteen wins as Movie Sound Engineer of the Year.
The night will carry a personal note for Santos-Recto: two of her former leading men, Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz and Tirso Cruz III, will reunite to serenade her in a special musical tribute celebrating her contributions to Philippine cinema.
The ceremony will also present the Nora Aunor Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award to Megastar Sharon Cuneta — whose daughter Kakie will perform a tribute number — and to veteran actor Rez Cortez, receiving the first lifetime achievement honor of his 50-year career, while producer Alex Muhlach receives the Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Kamera Lifetime Achievement Award.

Tom Cruise Named 52nd Recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award
Tom Cruise is set to receive American cinema’s most prestigious career honor. The American Film Institute has named Cruise the 52nd recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award, recognising a career that has defined the modern blockbuster for more than four decades.
Few actors have shaped the theatrical era the way Cruise has. From his breakout in Risky Business and the phenomenon of Top Gun, through dramatic heavyweight turns in Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men and Jerry Maguire, to the Mission: Impossible franchise — where his commitment to practical stunt work became the industry standard — Cruise has remained the defining movie star of his generation.
The AFI Life Achievement Award, established in 1973, is presented to a single honoree whose body of work has made a lasting contribution to American culture. For Cruise, the tribute caps a run that has consistently championed the big-screen experience, drawing global audiences back into cinemas and setting box-office benchmarks that few performers in history can match.
He joins one of the most exclusive honor rolls in film — a recognition, four decades in, that the mission is far from over.
