We Speak MMA — Athlete Spotlight

MMA is the hardest game there is — striking, wrestling and jiu-jitsu in one cage, with nowhere to hide. This page was built for young fighters only: it asks about your gym, your base discipline, your camps and the nights that made you. Your story, in your words — told right.

📝 Answer the 3 ⭐ questions + any 9 more (12 minimum)✏️ 2–3 sentences each📷 One real action photo👁️ You approve the preview before it goes live

🃏 The Player Card

Your name and YOUR email are the two things we must have — your preview link goes to that email. Parent info is optional.

A real photo of you in action — game, meet, match or training. This becomes your article's featured photo.

Your Run

Q1

The fight that made you

⭐ MUST ANSWER

Every fighter has one night — one fight, one round, one exchange — where everything clicked or everything changed. What was the fight that defined your run so far, and walk us through it like we weren't cage-side?

Q2

The fight you'll never forget

Win or lose, there's one fight burned into your memory forever. Which one is it, who was across the cage from you, and what happened in there that you'll still be telling people about in ten years?

Q3

The performance you're proudest of

Not just your cleanest finish — the performance that meant the most. A submission you hunted for rounds, a takedown that changed the fight, a comeback from a round you were losing. Give us the fight, the moment, and why that one hits different.

What They Don't See

Q4

The hardest moment of your career so far

⭐ MUST ANSWER

The injury. The loss that gutted you. The cut, the layoff, the camp where everything went wrong, the season you almost walked away. What was the hardest thing this sport has put you through — and what did it do to you? How are you different because of it?

Q5

What nobody sees

Fight night is three rounds. The sport is everything else — the 5 a.m. runs, the drilling after class, training three disciplines in one day, the rounds nobody films. What do you put into this sport that never shows up on a poster — and why do you do it when nobody's watching?

Q6

The opponent who made you better

Name the toughest fighter you've ever faced across the cage. What made them so hard to solve — their pressure, their grappling, their chin, their pace — and what did fighting them teach you about your own game?

Q7

Finish this line

“My coach would describe me as ___ because ___.” Be honest — and if your coach would say something funny, we want that too.

The Gym & The Dream

Q8

The training partner who deserves more credit

Every gym has one — the partner who shows up every day, gives you the hardest rounds, and never gets their name on a poster. Who are they, what do they do for your game, and why don't you win without them?

Q9

What this sport costs your family — and what it gives back

The gym fees. The drives to tournaments and smoker cards. The meals, the miles, the weekends built around your training. What does your family sacrifice so you can chase this — and what does fighting mean to your family because of it?

Q10

If a coach or promoter reads ONE thing…

⭐ MUST ANSWER

Pretend a college wrestling or MMA coach — or a promoter deciding who gets the next fight — opens your article and reads exactly one answer. This is it. What is the one thing you need them to know about you — as a fighter, a training partner, or a person? Don't waste it.

Q11

The big stage

If you could walk into any cage in the world tomorrow — any promotion, any arena — which one is it, and why that one? The lights, the crowd, the belt, the name on the poster… what pulls you there?

Q12

Who you steal from

Which fighter — pro, amateur, or someone you watched coming up — do you model your game after? What do you copy from them: their takedowns, their guard, their combinations, their calm when they're hurt? Name one specific thing you took from their game and made yours.

Q13

Five years from now

You're looking back at this article in five years. Where do you want to be — in the cage and outside it? A record, a gym of your own, college, a career, a life. Paint the picture.

Q14

Fight day, your way

Walk us through it: how you eat, how you rest, the moment you arrive, how you warm up backstage, the superstition you won't break — and the one walkout song that has to be playing when your name is called.

Q15

There's a life outside the gym

Hidden talent, weird hobby, secret skill, the thing your teammates would say you're obsessed with that has nothing to do with fighting. Who are you when you're not in fight gear?

Your Craft

Q16

Where your game starts

Every MMA fighter's game is built on a base — wrestling, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing. Break yours down for somebody who's never trained: what did you start with, how did the other disciplines layer on top of it, and what does your base let you do in the cage that a fighter without it can't?

Q17

Third round. Empty tank.

You're in the final round, your arms are heavy, your legs are gone, and the fight is right there to be won or lost. What's going through your head — and what do you actually DO in that moment? If you've lived a round like that, tell us the real one: the fight, the round, how it ended.

Q18

Striker or grappler — where do you live?

MMA is two worlds in one cage: the striking and the grappling. Where are you most dangerous right now — on the feet or on the mat — and where are you most honest about still needing work? What are you building to close that gap?

Q19

The code of the gym

Every real gym runs on respect: you tap in training, you take care of your partners, you leave your ego at the door. What has your gym taught you about how to treat people — in the cage and in life — that you'll carry long after you stop fighting?

Q20

Pass it on

Who in your gym should we highlight next? Give us their name, their weight class, and WHY them — the story, the grind, the moment that made you think, “They deserve this.” (Yes, they'll get the same 20 questions. Choose wisely.)

🌙 Offseason Mode

Seasons end. Stories don't. Answer these three and we can run your Spotlight as an Offseason Check-In — the work nobody sees, all year long. (Optional.)

OFF 1

The lab between fights

No date on the calendar, no opponent with a name — so what does the work look like right now? Walk us through a normal training week between fights: the sessions, the drilling, the strength work, the days that hurt.

OFF 2

The discipline you're leveling up

Pick one — wrestling, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing. Which discipline is getting the most of your hours this stretch, and what exactly are you adding to it? A takedown, a submission chain, a combination — name the thing you're building.

OFF 3

The next version of you

When you walk back into that cage, what will the next version of you do that the last one couldn't? And what's the next fight you're chasing — the promotion, the card, the statement you want to make when the door closes?

❓

Questions for us?

Anything you want to ask — athletes and parents both. A real person answers every one. Parents: include the email you want the answer sent to.
