We Speak Softball — Athlete Spotlight

School ball in the spring. Travel ball all summer and fall. Two seasons, two teams, one story — and nobody in media is telling it. Until now. This page was built for softball players only: it asks about your travel team, your work in the circle, and your seventh innings.

📝 Answer the 3 ⭐ questions + any 9 more (12 minimum)✏️ 2–3 sentences each📷 One real action photo👁️ You approve the preview before it goes live

🃏 The Player Card

Your name and YOUR email are the two things we must have — your preview link goes to that email. Parent info is optional.

A real photo of you in action — game, meet, match or training. This becomes your article's featured photo.

Your Season

Q1

The moment your season turned

⭐ MUST ANSWER

Every season has one play, one game, one inning where everything clicked or everything changed. What was the moment that defined your season — and walk us through it like we weren't there?

Q2

The game you'll never forget

Win or lose, there's one game burned into your memory forever. Which one is it, who were you playing, and what happened that you'll still be telling people about in ten years?

Q3

The stat line you're proudest of

Not just your biggest numbers — the performance that meant the most. A no-hitter. A 15-strikeout night in the circle. A 4-for-4 day with the game-winning hit. Give us the game, the numbers, and why that one hits different.

What They Don't See

Q4

The hardest moment of your career so far

⭐ MUST ANSWER

The injury. Losing your spot. The error that let the winning run score. The season you almost gave the game back. What was the hardest thing softball has put you through — and what did it do to you? How are you different because of it?

Q5

What nobody sees

The bullpen sessions nobody counts. The bucket of balls off the tee in the backyard. The pitching lessons, the 6 a.m. cage work, the long toss in the heat. What do you put into this sport that never shows up in a box score — and why do you do it when nobody's watching?

Q6

The opponent who made you better

Name the toughest pitcher you've ever stood in against, the toughest hitter you've ever had to get out, or the team that always brings it. What made them so hard — and what did facing them teach you about your own game?

Q7

Finish this line

“My coach would describe me as ___ because ___.” Be honest — and if your coach would say something funny, we want that too.

The Team & The Dream

Q8

The teammate who deserves more credit

Every team has one — the girl whose work holds everything together but never makes the highlight posts. The flex who never complains. The catcher who takes a beating behind the plate. Who is she, what does she do, and why does your team not win without her?

Q9

What this sport costs your family — and what it gives back

The tournament weekends. The travel fees, the hotels, the gate money, the coolers packed at 5 a.m. What does your family sacrifice so you can chase this — and what does softball mean to your family because of it?

Q10

If a college coach reads ONE thing…

⭐ MUST ANSWER

Pretend a college coach opens your article and reads exactly one answer. This is it. What is the one thing you need them to know about you — as a player, a teammate, or a person? Don't waste it.

Q11

The dream program

If you could step into any college program in the country tomorrow, which one — and why that one? The dirt, the dugout culture, the coach, the uniform… what pulls you there?

Q12

Who you steal from

Which player — college star, AUSL pro, or someone you watched growing up — do you model your game after? What do you copy from them: their rise ball, their slap footwork, their swing, their energy in the circle? Name one specific thing you took from their game and made yours.

Q13

Five years from now

You're looking back at this article in five years. Where do you want to be — on the field and off it? College ball, a career, a city, a life. Paint the picture.

The Fun Ones

Q14

Game day, your way

Walk us through it: the hair, the eye black, the ribbon that has to be right, the pre-game meal, the superstition you won't break — and the one walk-up song that has to hit before your first at-bat.

Q15

There's a life outside the dirt

Hidden talent, weird hobby, secret skill, the thing your teammates would say you're obsessed with that has nothing to do with softball. Who are you when you're not in a jersey?

Softball Only

Q16

Your job on the dirt

Every position on the field is a different job. Break yours down for somebody who's never played: pitchers own the circle and set the game's heartbeat, catchers run the whole field from behind the plate, middle infielders turn two in a blink. What are YOU responsible for on every single pitch — and what's the hardest part of your position that fans in the stands never understand?

Q17

Seventh inning. No tomorrow.

It's the seventh, season on the line. You're in the circle with the tying run on third — or you're walking to the plate with your team down to its last out. What's going through your head — and what do you actually DO in that moment? If you've lived a moment like that, tell us the real one: the score, the count, how it ended.

Q18

School ball vs. travel ball

You play both — so tell the truth. What's actually different: the pace, the pressure, teammates you've known forever vs. a roster built from five towns, the college coaches lined up behind the backstop? Which version of the game brings out the best in you, and why?

Q19

Power or small ball?

Softball has two religions. There's the big swing — grip it and rip it over the 200-foot fence. And there's small ball — the slap, the drag bunt, stealing your way around and making the defense panic. Which one are you, and why does that style fit YOUR game? If you do both, tell us when you choose which.

Pass It On

Q20

Pass it on

Who on your team should we highlight next? Give us her name, her position, and WHY her — the story, the grind, the moment that made you think, “She deserves this.” (Yes, she'll get the same 20 questions. Choose wisely.)

🌙 Offseason Mode

Seasons end. Stories don't. Answer these three and we can run your Spotlight as an Offseason Check-In — the work nobody sees, all year long. (Optional.)

OFF 1

Travel ball takes over

School ball is over and travel ball takes over — long weekends, showcases, college coaches behind every backstop. What team and organization are you playing with this stretch, and what are you trying to put in front of the coaches watching?

OFF 2

The offseason project

Every serious player has one: a rise ball that actually jumps, a faster pop time, more exit velocity, a slap game from the left side, a quicker home-to-first. What's YOUR project — what are you building right now, and what number are you chasing?

OFF 3

Next season's version of you

What does next season's you do that this season's couldn't? Name the one thing you're determined to walk back onto your school field owning when the season opens.
