When it comes to speed, discipline, and determination, Aniyah Walker is setting the pace. A rising star in sprinting events specializing in the 60m, 100m, and 200m dashes, Aniyah brings an explosive power to the track. A mindset shaped by her parent’s legacy in the sport. With a training routine that balances intensity, and a drive to compete against the nation’s best. She’s proving that greatness is in her blood, and success is in her future. Focused, fearless, and fueled by belief in her preparation, Aniyah is carving out a name for herself with every stride.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aniyah Walker.

Aniyah, what events do you specialize in, and which one do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy 60m, 100m, and the 200m. I enjoy the 100m the most because it allows me to show my top-end speed.

How did you get started in track and field, and what drew you to your specific events?
I got started in track and field because of my parents; they both competed at a high level in track and field, so I knew it was only a matter of time before I grew in the sport. Their success and passion inspired me to follow in their footsteps.

What’s a typical training week like for you in terms of sprint/hurdle/field event workouts?
Typically on Mondays we sprint in spikes, usually some sleds, bands, bullet belt, 20m, and 30m. Nothing more than 60m. On Tuesdays we have up-tempo workouts like 150s. Thursdays are our longer conditioning days, so we usually have field runs or sometimes I’ll work with the 400m group. It’s all about mixing speed and endurance throughout the week.

What’s the most challenging part of your event, and how do you train to overcome it?
Most challenging event is the 200m. When I’m in a bad lane, I have to catch the lanes ahead of me. I prefer to be in the middle of the track. However, I overcome it by never quitting in practice and staying consistent.

What’s your toughest workout or training session—and how do you mentally get through it?
My toughest workout is 15 minutes of hills straight. Mentally, I tell myself “I can do it, I’m not quitting.” That mindset helps me power through every time.

Describe your pre-race or pre-event routine. Any superstitions or must-haves?
So, I always have to have Starbucks and a good quality warm-up. It helps me feel prepared and locked in.

How do you handle nerves or pressure before a big meet?
I don’t really let pressure get to me. I believe in myself, I believe in my training, and I believe in my coach. That confidence keeps me calm.

What has been your most memorable performance so far and why?
Running 24.29 at the Middle School State Championship, and grabbing second place as a 6th grader. That race showed me what I was capable of at a young age.

Who do you look up to in your sport, whether locally or professionally?
Melissa Jefferson. She inspires me with how she carries herself, and competes at a high level.

What’s one technical aspect of your event you’re really focused on improving right now?
Keeping my hips in front of me. It helps with power and running efficiency.

How important is mental preparation in your events, and how do you work on it?
Very important. My dad constantly keeps me prepared throughout the weeks leading up to my races. He reminds me to stay focused and confident.

Do you approach your events more with strategy or instinct? Why?
Strategy, depends who I’m racing. My coach will put together a race plan of what I need to do to execute. It keeps me focused on the goal.

What’s your favorite track or field venue to compete at and why?
New Balance Nationals Outdoors. I like running the 100/200 for elite competition. The atmosphere there pushes me.

What kind of music or motivation gets you hyped before competing?
Rod Wave is my go-to. His music gets me in the zone.

How do your teammates or training group influence your performance?
We push each other in practice, every practice! We are one big family, and that energy motivates me.

What’s your go-to recovery routine after a meet or heavy practice?
Rest is the most important thing. I make sure to take care of my body and stay ready for the next session.

How do you balance school, life, and training? Any tips?
I always manage the schoolwork first. My grades are super important. Staying organized helps me stay on track.

Outside of track and field, what are your interests or hobbies?
I enjoy traveling and hanging out with my family and friends. It helps me unwind and recharge.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your event?
Stick to it. It’s not easy. Only the strong survive. Stay consistent, and believe in yourself.

Whether you’re a coach, athlete, parent, or sports fan, I’d love to hear from you. Have a story idea? Want to collaborate on coverage? Looking to feature your team or athlete? Use the form below to get in touch.

For Coach Ty, basketball is more than a sport, it’s a lifeline, a classroom, and a calling. From being saved by the game as a young man, to now guiding others through it, he’s built his coaching career on purpose and passion. Whether he’s leading his team through adversity, or encouraging a player in an one-on-one conversation, Coach Ty brings authenticity, heart, and a drive to develop better athletes.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coach Ty.

Coach Ty, What first inspired you to become a coach?
I was inspired by the desire to give back through the game of basketball. This sport saved me from a lot of trouble, and coaching became a way for me to return that blessing. I want to guide others through the same path that once gave me direction.

What’s the most rewarding part of coaching for you personally?
The most rewarding part is watching these young athletes grow not just in basketball, but as young adults. Seeing them become better people, students, and leaders off the court is what keeps me going. That development means more than any win.

How do you define success beyond wins and losses?
Success to me is about growth and learning from every experience. If you can take something away from each situation and avoid repeating negative patterns, you’re already winning. It’s about constant progress, not just the scoreboard.

What’s one lesson your players have taught you?
My players have taught me patience, real patience. I’ve learned that mistakes are part of the journey and not the end of the world. They’ve shown me how important grace is during development.

How do you help your athletes grow as people, not just players?
I focus on teaching them right from wrong and how to trust their conscience. Life is full of choices, and I want them to have the tools to walk away from anything that doesn’t serve them. The game is temporary, but their character lasts forever.

Share a moment that truly moved you during your coaching career.
One moment that really stuck with me was watching my players go up to college coaches at a live period and introduce themselves. They came back proud, bragging about getting numbers or business cards. It showed me how confident and hungry they were for the next level.

How do you keep your team motivated during tough times?
I remind them that no matter how bad things feel, someone out there is going through worse. Encouragement and perspective go a long way. We lean on each other and keep pushing forward together.

What’s your favorite team tradition?
My favorite tradition is how we hype each other up. We bring that energy every single day and act as each other’s biggest cheerleaders. That kind of love fuels us.

What’s something your players might be surprised to know about you?
Most people don’t know that soccer was actually my first love. Before basketball, I was out there kicking a ball and dreaming differently. It’s a big part of my athletic roots.

What’s the proudest moment you’ve experienced as a coach?
Seeing my players grow into respectable, confident young men is my proudest achievement. It happens day by day, and I notice the little changes. That transformation means everything.

How do you handle pressure and expectations as a coach?
I leave what I can’t control to God. I focus on doing my part. I show up for my players by being present. That faith helps me carry the load.

What’s a fun ritual or superstition you have before games?
Before each game, we huddle and pray together as a team. Sometimes a player will dunk after warm-ups, and the rest of the squad jumps around in hype. It sets the tone.

How do you stay connected with former players?
I check in with them on social media and keep in touch by calling them. It’s important to me that they know I’m still in their corner. Our relationship doesn’t end when the season does.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to young coaches just starting out?
Stay consistent in everything you do. Be true to the kids you coach and hold yourself to the same standard you expect from them. Your example speaks louder than your words.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind?
I want people to say Coach Ty really cared deeply. Whether I coached you or just talked with you, I hope you felt that I wanted the best for you. That’s the legacy I’m building.

How has coaching shaped you as a person?
Coaching has kept me grounded and focused. Knowing I have young men looking up to me keeps me away from the wrong paths. It gives my life purpose beyond the game.

How do you handle the emotional weight of being a role model for young athletes?
I live by the same expectations I set for them. If I want them to be great, I’ve got to model that in my own life. Being that example helps carry the responsibility.

What’s your coaching philosophy?
Never quit, outwork your opponent, and keep the energy sky-high. Be the biggest dog on the courtmentally and physically. That mindset makes all the difference.

Can you share a game that changed your life as a coach?
Honestly, every single game changes me. Just getting the chance to be on the sideline and pour into these athletes is life-changing. Win or lose, I’m grateful every time.

What’s the most unexpected moment you’ve had as a coach?
Getting a phone call from one of my players saying they’d been shot was heartbreaking. That moment reminded me how real life can get outside of the gym. It shook me and fueled my mission even more.

What’s the biggest life lesson you’ve learned from a certain loss?
Losses don’t define you, they teach you. Let it sting, let it humble you, but make sure you learn from it. Growth is born in those tough moments.

How do you nurture leadership within your team?
I push them to treat each other like family first. Leadership starts with how you care for those around you. If you lead with love, the rest follows.

What is one piece of advice you constantly repeat to your team?
Stay together and bring energy ,on the court, and on the bench. No matter what, we ride for each other. That unity wins games.

Do you have a signature phrase or principle?
“Be DIFFERENT. Be YOU.” That’s the standard. I tell them to never try to fit in when they were made to stand out.

What is the toughest coaching decision you ever had to make?
Letting a player go from the team was one of the hardest decisions I’ve faced. You build relationships and want to help everyone. But sometimes tough love is necessary.

How do you stay current with the game to keep evolving as a coach?
I still play and study the game daily. Watching how it changes helps me adapt. You’ve got to stay a student if you want to teach.

What would your players say about you as a coach?
They’d all probably have different things to say, but I hope they’d agree I’m loyal and true. I care for them deeply and want what’s best for them. That’s my heartbeat.

How do you want to be remembered as a coach?
I want every player to know I had their back. That I showed up, stayed real, and never stopped believing in them. That’s the mark I hope to leave.

Have you earned any championships, awards, or honors during your coaching career?
Yes, I won back-to-back championships at Hillsdale Baptist during the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 seasons. I was named 2nd Team All-American and still hold the school’s record for most assists in a single game with 13. That chapter of my life taught me how to win and lead.

Whether you’re a coach, athlete, parent, or sports fan, I’d love to hear from you. Have a story idea? Want to collaborate on coverage? Looking to feature your team or athlete? Use the form below to get in touch.

Parker Duskin is a driven and dynamic athlete who brings power, precision, and passion to the track every time he competes. Specializing in sprints, relays, and hurdles, Parker has built a reputation for being relentless in training and fearless on race day. With a mindset rooted in discipline, and a deep love for competition, he continues to rise through the ranks.. Whether it’s early-morning lifts, intense hurdle sessions, or national level meets, Duskin is always locked in, and he is just getting started.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Parker Duskin.

What events do you specialize in, and which one do you enjoy the most?
I specialize in sprints, relays, and hurdles. Out of all of them, I’d say hurdles has become my favorite because it challenges me in a way that no other event does. It’s not just about speed it’s about rhythm, timing, and grit.

How did you get started in track and field, and what drew you to your specific events?
I’ve always felt fast , even as a kid I knew I had something different. Once I got to middle school, I finally had a chance to prove it, and I jumped into track with everything I had. That feeling of pulling ahead in a race hooked me instantly.

What’s a typical training week like for you in terms of sprint/hurdle/field event workouts?
A competition-cycle week usually consists of two days focused strictly on hurdle work. The other days are a mix of sprint mechanics, lifting sessions, and race modeling. It’s a heavy load, but it’s structured for peak performance.

What’s the most challenging part of your event, and how do you train to overcome it?
The hurdles are incredibly unforgiving. One misstep can throw your rhythm off and ruin an entire race in seconds. I train to overcome that by dialing in mentally, practicing timing relentlessly, and embracing the challenge head-on.

What’s your toughest workout or training session—and how do you mentally get through it?
Definitely fall training. I’ve done multiple sports at a high level, and nothing compares to the pain of fall track workouts stadiums, figure 8s, and jump runs. It’s brutal, but I survive it by flipping a mental switch and reminding myself that growth lives in the hardest moments.

Do you have a favorite drill or technique that’s helped you improve?
It’s hard to choose one. I rely on a lot of mental cues and form-focused drills that help me stay sharp. Over time, stacking those small technical wins turns into big race-day results.

Describe your pre-race or pre-event routine. Any superstitions or must-haves?
Before a race, I remind myself that this moment will never happen again. I tell myself that pressure is a privilege and I need to make the most of every step in those spikes. That mindset keeps me grounded and hungry.

How do you handle nerves or pressure before a big meet?
Honestly, I love it. Feeling nervous means I care and that I’m still passionate. I channel those butterflies into fuel. It means I’m ready.

What has been your most memorable performance so far and why?
My performance at First Rounds this weekend was unforgettable. Competing against big-name schools and qualifying for the national championships in Eugene felt like a dream. It proved to me that I belong on that level.

Who do you look up to in your sport, whether locally or professionally?
Coach Gabriel, without a doubt. He’s had a massive impact not just on our sprint program but on me as a person. He’s smart, focused, and helps us become better athletes and better men.

What’s one technical aspect of your event you’re really focused on improving right now?
Right now, I’m sharpening up my hurdle technique and testing out a few new things. I’ve got the USA World Team Trials coming up, so it’s a good opportunity to put that work into action.

How important is mental preparation in your events, and how do you work on it?
Mental prep is everything. I run my race mentally over and over before I ever step on the track. Track and field is as much a mental battle as it is physical.

Do you approach your events more with strategy or instinct? Why?
When it’s race day, I run on instinct. The strategy and preparation happen in the weeks leading up. By the time I get to the line, it’s all reaction, no hesitation.

What’s your favorite track or field venue to compete at and why?
Right now, my favorites are the University of Texas and Texas A&M. But I’ve got a feeling Eugene is about to top them all. It’s the dream spot for any serious track athlete.

What kind of music or motivation gets you hyped before competing?
I’m from a smaller town in Washington State so country music helps me relax and feel grounded. But if I need to get hyped, rap music gets the energy going. It’s all about balance.

How do your teammates or training group influence your performance?
My training group plays a huge role. Having a strong circle of athletes around me pushes me to show up and give my best every day. We challenge and support each other constantly.

What’s your go-to recovery routine after a meet or heavy practice?
Recovery is crucial. I always focus on hydration, eating quality food, and getting protein in fast. That recovery window is key for staying healthy and consistent.

How do you balance school, life, and training? Any tips?
Balancing everything is hard, but it’s doable with discipline. I rely on a calendar and stay on top of deadlines. Academics and training come first. Everything else falls into place after that.

Outside of track and field, what are your interests or hobbies?
I love staying active in other ways. I snowboard in the winter. And I usually surf or golf in the summer. It keeps me mentally refreshed and lets me enjoy life outside of track.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your event?
Be patient, it’s a tough journey. Hurdles and sprints take serious time, discipline, and mental toughness. Remember, you don’t play track… you run it. Everything else is just a game.

Whether you’re a coach, athlete, parent, or sports fan, I’d love to hear from you. Have a story idea? Want to collaborate on coverage? Looking to feature your team or athlete? Use the form below to get in touch.

Meet Sydney Rincon, a rising freshman at Sierra Canyon and the dynamic setter for City 15 Gold. At just 14 years old, Sydney already brings leadership, grit, and serious volleyball IQ to every game she plays. Her journey began at the age 8, and since then, she’s been all in balancing school, training, and tournament life with discipline and heart. In this Q&A, Sydney shares what fuels her fire, how she handles pressure, and why she’s just getting started.

How did you get started playing volleyball, and what made you fall in love with the sport?
After playing a lot of different sports, my mom signed me up for recreational volleyball at age 8, and I immediately loved it. It was super positive, supportive, and I made a lot of new friends quickly.

Who has been the most influential person in your volleyball journey so far?
Coach Daryl Adams, because he believes in me and pushes me beyond my limits so that I continue to grow.

What position do you play, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I am a setter, and I enjoy setting my hitters up for success as well as running the offense.

How do you balance academics, volleyball, and personal time during the season?
I plan each week ahead of time so I know what I have to do to balance it all.

What’s your favorite memory from your volleyball experience?
Winning the bronze medal at the USAV Nationals my 14s year with my best friends is my favorite memory. It was so much fun to even go, but even more fun doing it with my team.

What’s a typical training day like for you during the season?
I train 5–6 days a week. I focus on getting sleep, recovery, hydration, and eating well.

How would you describe your team’s chemistry this season?
We are good friends on and off the court, and I believe that shows in how we play together.

What’s one drill or workout you secretly enjoy (or hate to love)?
I secretly love chaos. It is so much fun running and hustling for every single ball, and playing unexpected balls.

How do you prepare mentally and physically for a game or big tournament?
I prepare by listening to music and talking to my teammates about things not related to volleyball.

What personal goals have you set for yourself this season?
A goal I have set for myself is to push myself as much as I can during this season. And to take advantage of playing with amazing girls at Sierra Canyon.

What’s a piece of advice you’ve received from a coach that stuck with you?
Be cool, confident, and consistent. But show my personality when needed.

What motivates you to keep pushing through tough practices or losses?
What motivates me is knowing that losses are in the past. I try to look forward because there will always be other opportunities to do amazing things.

Where do you see yourself in volleyball over the next 3–5 years?
Playing for Sierra Canyon, and hopefully committing to a top D1 program that I love.

How do you handle pressure during close matches or high-stakes points?
Play free and have fun—ignore the score.

Who’s the funniest teammate on the squad, and why?
Tatum Thomas, because she is always making jokes that are so bad. But they’re funny.

Favorite volleyball player or team you look up to?
Zayna Meyer, she is one of the setters at UCLA . She is nice, talented, but aggressive on the court at the same time. She’s so much fun to watch!

Do you have any pre-game rituals, superstitions, or pump-up songs?
I have a playlist I listen to when I’m walking into the venue.

What’s your go-to post-tournament meal or snack?
In-N-Out.

If you weren’t playing volleyball, what sport would you try instead?
Tennis.

What’s something fans or coaches might be surprised to learn about you?
I have watched all 21 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy.

Whether you’re a coach, athlete, parent, or sports fan, I’d love to hear from you. Have a story idea? Want to collaborate on coverage? Looking to feature your team or athlete? Use the form below to get in touch.

ABOUT

Florida-native artist, Nilka, is transcending the soul-pop genre with her fluid vocals and dreamy bedroom production. Nilka fell in love with creating songs as a young girl fusing her thoughts to a string of notes with lyrics originating back to the early age of nine years old. Five years later she taught herself how to play guitar, cementing her melody-lyric combinations and her pensive songs became like entries in a journal. Songwriting was a way for Nilka to confront experiences in her life and music became her outlet. Throughout grade school, she participated in different bands and choirs where she became fascinated with the impression symphonic music could leave on an audience and she has been inspired by a broad spectrum of genres from Motown to Folk music. In 2014 Nilka graduated from Polk State College with an Associate of Arts degree emphasized in music where she studied Classical Voice. During the summer of 2014, Nilka relocated to Nashville, Tennessee to finish her Bachelor of Music degree at Belmont University in Commercial Voice and Songwriting.

Nilka has been releasing music since 2017 and during that time has gained song placements on HULU’s series “Light as a Feather” as well as the series “Love Island Australia”. Her songs have been released by EDM labels such as NoCopyrightSounds and Magic Records and now in the next 12 months, she is set to release her first self-produced album project consisting of seven songs that reflect on her spirituality and deepest relationships. Nilka’s lyrics undeniably share a message of how powerful and sacrificial true love is and her music captivates listeners with a soul-moving experience revealing a unique and authentic perspective of the human experience.
