Dominion Energy Charity Classic Voted No. 1 event of 2017 by PGA TOUR Champions Players

For the second year in a row, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic (DECC) has been voted by PGA TOUR Champions players as their favorite event in which to play.

The 2017 Players Award was presented on Thursday, December 7 at the PGA TOUR’s Tournament Meetings in Boca Raton, Fla. The PGA TOUR Champions membership votes on the Players Award each year. The tournament was also the recipient of this award in 2016 after a standout performance in its inaugural year.

“The Dominion Energy Charity Classic demonstrated the value of having an engaged local title sponsor in Dominion Energy as well as a welcoming host in The Country Club of Virginia,” said PGA TOUR Champions President Greg McLaughlin. “For two years in a row, our players have bestowed this prestigious honor on one of our youngest events, and it’s a testament to the tireless efforts put forth by our tremendous partners in the Richmond market.”

“In just two years, the sponsors, volunteers, CCV and the Richmond community have made the Dominion Energy Charity Classic one of the best golf tournaments anywhere,” said Thomas F. Farrell, II, Dominion Energy’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.

“We are pleased that not only the patrons but also the players have enjoyed their time here, and we promise to put on an even better event next year.”

The annual Players Award represents recognition for a tournament that goes above and beyond in the experience provided to PGA TOUR Champions players. Notable efforts from the 2017 Dominion Energy Charity Classic included:

Significant engagement from title sponsor Dominion Energy including representation on all volunteer committees and a grounds admission program available to all company employees.
The Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course, a 1928 William Flynn design, as host venue.
Hospitality demonstrated by The Country Club of Virginia members and staff.
Outstanding community engagement and spectator attendance, as well as extensive year-round coverage of the event from Richmond-area media outlets.
Expansive build out of grandstands and hospitality marquees, specifically on holes 16 and 18, which allowed for the development, look and feel of Playoff drama.

In its second year, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic was repositioned as the first of three events in the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, and hosted the top 72 players in the standings. The event produced one of the year’s most exciting finishes, with Bernhard Langer sinking an 18-foot eagle putt on his 54^th hole for his sixth victory of the 2017 season.

The Dominion Energy Charity Classic will remain the first of three events in 2018 and is set to return to The Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course the week of October 15-21.

Luka Doncic scored 52 points with 10 assists and eight rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers rallied from 18 points down to beat the Utah Jazz 132-123 on Sunday night and stay unbeaten.

Doncic made 17 of 30 shots, hit eight 3-pointers and had 39 points through three quarters, closing the third period with a stepback 3 that gave Los Angeles a 103-100 lead. Austin Reaves added 29 points for the Lakers (3-0). Doncic became the fastest Laker ever to 3,000 points with the franchise, reaching the mark in 95 games to beat George Mikan (106) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (109), and he tied Abdul-Jabbar with his 10th career 50-point game. He is also the first Laker since 1963 to record at least 50 points and 10 assists in a game, joining Elgin Baylor and Jerry West.

Magic 111, Knicks 102: Franz Wagner scored 21 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 13 rebounds and nine assists as Orlando erased a 10-point deficit in the final nine-plus minutes to hand the defending champion Knicks their third straight loss to open the season — the first time a reigning champion has started 0-3 since the 2011-12 Dallas Mavericks. Desmond Bane scored 22 points and hit the 3-pointer that put the Magic ahead for good with 4:53 left, while Tristan da Silva (19 points) and Anthony Black (18 in his season debut) delivered off the bench for a team missing Paolo Banchero, who is expected to miss at least a month with an ankle injury. Orlando did lose Jalen Suggs late, helped off with an apparent right knee injury. Jalen Brunson scored a game-high 28 points for New York, and Karl-Anthony Towns added 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Pistons 106, 76ers 93: Cade Cunningham scored 26 points with eight rebounds and eight assists and John Collins added 16 points and 11 rebounds as Detroit led wire-to-wire to stay unbeaten in its first game without Jalen Duren, who will miss at least two weeks with a strained right hamstring. Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 29 points and LeBron James had 18 as the 76ers, playing without Joel Embiid (rest) and VJ Edgecombe, lost for the first time after a 3-0 start.

Pacers 136, Nets 109: Tyrese Haliburton had 24 points and 10 assists, Pascal Siakam added 21 and Obi Toppin chipped in 16 as Indiana erupted for 41 points in the second quarter and shot 58 percent from the field, including 21 made 3-pointers. Reserve Nolan Traore led Brooklyn with 17 points as the Nets fell to 0-3.

Thunder 108, Clippers 101: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 points, including 16 in the third quarter, and Ajay Mitchell added 18 as Oklahoma City improved to 3-0 — but the win was marred by injuries. Jalen Williams was carted off on a stretcher with a left leg injury after a hard fall with just over a minute remaining, while Cason Wallace (left shoulder soreness) and Jaylin Williams (right wrist soreness) also exited. Darius Garland led the Clippers with 16 points and 11 assists.

Timberwolves 117, Raptors 94: Anthony Edwards scored 26 points as Minnesota improved to 3-0 and handed Toronto its first loss, holding Scottie Barnes scoreless on 0-of-12 shooting — tying the Raptors’ franchise record for field-goal attempts without a make. Toronto played without Kawhi Leonard, who sat out with right knee swelling.

Grizzlies 123, Kings 112: Ty Jerome scored 31 points with six assists and Memphis answered a fourth-quarter tie with an 11-0 run to start 3-0 for the third time in franchise history. Cam Boozer posted his second straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Cedric Coward added 15 points and 11 rebounds in his return to the lineup. Zach LaVine scored a game-high 37 points for Sacramento (0-3).
