Friday Night in Miami-Dade: Columbus Tops Northwestern 30-7 for the Open Division, Central and Palmetto Roll on Thursday
The game of the week in South Florida lived up to the billing — for one side. Columbus went into Liberty City on Friday night and left with the biggest win of its season.
Columbus 30, Miami Northwestern 7: Columbus (9-1) beat the Bulls (6-4) on their home field, and the win clinched the Explorers’ spot in the FHSAA Open Division playoffs.
Miami Central 55, North Miami Beach 0 (Thursday): Central (7-2) opened the week with a shutout rout of North Miami Beach (6-3) on Thursday night.
Carol City 40, Mater Academy Charter 7: Carol City (6-3) handled business on the road, pulling away from Mater Academy (5-4).
Miami Palmetto 42, South Dade 13 (Thursday): Palmetto (7-2) kept its strong season going with a comfortable Thursday night win over South Dade (3-7).
Homestead 24, Edison 0: Homestead (3-6) made it two straight wins, shutting out Edison (1-8).
Southridge’s game against Dillard finished in overtime, but the sources covering it disagree on the final score — and on the winner — so that result is being held until it can be verified.

Sophomore D’Andre Hennix Catches Three Touchdowns — Including the Overtime Game-Winner — as Mays Outlasts Southwest DeKalb 34-31
Benjamin E. Mays has a new star, and Friday night he owned the biggest stage in Atlanta high school football.
Sophomore wide receiver D’Andre Hennix caught three touchdown passes — including the game-winner in the second overtime — as Mays outlasted Southwest DeKalb 34-31 at William Buck Godfrey Stadium to stay perfect on the season.
The Raiders trailed 21-7 before storming back, and every time Mays needed a play, it went to No. 15. Hennix’s final catch ended it in double overtime, and he was named the game’s Robbie Hunter Most Valuable Player.

Mays improves to 8-0 — building on the program’s first 7-0 start since 2015 — while Southwest DeKalb, led by senior quarterback Braylon Carter, falls to 4-5 after pushing the unbeaten Raiders to the brink.
Hennix is only a sophomore (class of 2029), and the college attention has already arrived: the three-star receiver holds offers from Florida State and Georgia Tech. Friday night showed everybody why.
We Speak Sports names D’Andre Hennix our Player of the Game.
