I Did Sing-A-Thon for my country GHANA 🇬🇭, Not For my Own gain
Ghanaian journalist, event organizer, and women’s rights advocate, Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, captured the nation’s attention with her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon. She sang for an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by India’s Sunil Waghmare since 2012.
The marathon began at midnight on Sunday, December 24, and concluded on the morning of Friday, December 29, 2023, at Akwaaba Village in Accra, Ghana. To celebrate Afua’s incredible achievement, the Ghana Tourism Authority, in collaboration with JoyPrime and EventsPro, organized a party called the “SING A-THON AFTERPARTY.”
Expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming support from Ghanaians, Afua emphasized that she undertook the Sing A-Thon for the benefit of Ghana, not for personal gain. Her mission was to promote Ghanaian music and showcase the country on a global scale. With confidence, Afua declared, “Ghanaian music is going to hit the world.”
On December 29th, the Ghana Tourism Authority officially appointed Afua as a Tourism Ambassador, recognizing her outstanding contribution to putting Ghana and its music on the global map. This special honor was bestowed upon her during the SING A-THON AFTERPARTY at Akwaaba Village in Accra, Ghana.
