Kaciny Turns Heartbreak Into Catharsis With New Single “Rewind”
Brooklyn-born, Alabama-based singer-songwriter Kaciny transforms the raw shock of a relationship ending into an emotionally charged new single, “Rewind,” a deeply personal reflection on heartbreak, memory, and the desire to rewrite the past.
There are moments in life when everything changes in a single sentence. For Kaciny, the emotional spark behind “Rewind” came while listening to a close friend navigate a sudden and painful breakup. Their heartbreak immediately transported Kaciny back to the day her ex-husband told her he wanted to separate.
“I hated hearing them feel that pain because I knew what it was like,” Kaciny recalls. “We got off the phone and I needed that feeling to go somewhere, so I just picked up my laptop and wrote.”
The song came together almost instinctively. Drawing from both her friend’s experience and her own, Kaciny found the common thread between their stories: the desperate wish to go backward—to press rewind and discover some warning sign that might have made the ending easier to understand.
At its heart, “Rewind” asks a painfully familiar question: What if we could go back and know how the story ends?
Kaciny wanted listeners to experience the breakup from inside the room with her—from the ordinary details of everyday life, like sitting down with a cup of coffee, to the moment when devastating words change everything. The result is a song built around emotional immersion and release, capturing the sensation of having the air suddenly sucked out of a room.
“It’s catharsis,” she says. “I wanted people to feel immersed in what it was like for me to sit and hear those words come from someone I’d built a life with.”
While writing “Rewind” happened quickly, deciding to release such a vulnerable and confessional song required considerably more courage. Kaciny credits Lily Allen’s West End Girl as an important influence on that decision. Inspired by Allen’s fearless willingness to examine the experiences surrounding the end of her marriage, Kaciny realized she could take up space and tell her own story.
“Expressing that the end of a relationship was painful and sharing your experience is empowering,” she says.
Sonically, “Rewind” also draws inspiration from one of Kaciny’s longtime passions: anime. A devoted anime fan, she was particularly influenced by the music of NANA, a series renowned for its honest and complicated portrayal of relationships and young adulthood. Kaciny points specifically to Olivia Lufkin’s “A Little Pain,” whose dramatic “sonic crashout” moments are contrasted with delicate, floating passages.
“I wanted ‘Rewind’ to have an edge and feel the way that song makes me feel when I listen to it,” she explains.
Adding another deeply personal layer to the track is an interlude featuring voice actor Brion Kerry, who portrays Kaciny’s ex-husband. The performance recreates the devastating moment that inspired the song, making the emotional experience feel startlingly immediate.
“He literally nailed it in two takes, and I immediately started crying hearing those words echoed back to me again,” Kaciny says. “What an incredible talent!”
For Kaciny, storytelling has always been at the center of her artistry.
Born in Brooklyn and now based in Alabama, Kaciny grew up surrounded by music. She was singing before she could talk and came from an accomplished musical family that included a gifted musician father Dernst Emile, a mother Yanick Etienne( who was an Avalon girl), and a brother (Grammy and Oscar award winning producer D’Mile) capable of playing virtually anything he touched.
“I used to think those were such big shoes to fill,” Kaciny says. “It took a while for me to find my stride, but all of their influences helped me become a better artist.”
She began writing her own songs at just 12 years old, and by 20 had already established herself as a songwriter and producer, creating music for artists including Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. Although she has proven herself both behind the scenes and in the spotlight, Kaciny considers herself a storyteller above all else.
“I think everyone has a story to tell and a song to sing,” she says. “I just get the privilege of giving people words to sing along with.”
Her artistic influences span generations and genres, from Alanis Morissette, Bloc Party, Paramore, Santigold and Dionne Farris to contemporary artists such as Rachel Chinouriri. That diverse musical palette informs Kaciny’s own sound, where dynamic rhythms meet deeply personal narratives and emotionally direct songwriting.
With “Rewind,” Kaciny turns one of life’s most painful moments into something powerful: a song that doesn’t attempt to erase heartbreak, but instead gives it a voice. It is an intimate portrait of the shock, regret, anger and eventual catharsis that can accompany the end of a relationship—and a reminder that telling the truth about what hurt us can be an act of strength.

Naomi Aguilera casts her spell with her new single BB ILY
Two years ago, Naomi Aguilera walked onto my radar with EGO, an infectious soulful pop debut that made it impossible not to move. Fast forward to her debut EP Mosaïques, and it was clear she wasn’t just passing through. Personal, colorful, rooted in her Spanish heritage & Brussels upbringing, it even earned her a spot as Apple Music Benelux’s Up Next artist!
Now she’s back with BB ILY, marking the start of a new era. The bilingual single — French and English — is built around one of the most universal human experiences: that special connection that doesn’t need translation. Where EGO invited you to forget your ex on the dancefloor, BB ILY pulls you somewhere more intimate: with sultry beats courtesy of Turana, it’s a dance where gestures, whispers, sighs and the sound of a voice matters more than the words that come out of it… It’s sensual, a little mystical, and entirely her own.
First taste of Naomi Aguilera’s upcoming project Ojalá, due in 2027, it feels effortlessly catchy. This is the kind of track that casts its spell quietly, with interesting and unexpected rhythmic shifts in the verses, and a delicious chorus that lodges itself in your head before you even notice. By the time you do, it’s too late. But you won’t find me complaining about it!
