Kendrick and SZA Sued Over Black Panther Video

Lina Iris Viktor previously accused them of stealing her artwork for “All the Stars”

Kendrick Lamar and SZA have been sued over their “All the Stars” video, TMZreports. The suit is from British-Liberian artist Lina Iris Viktor, who recently accused them of using her artwork in their visuals for the Black Panther song. According to a New York Times report, her lawyer previously sent TDE’s Anthony Tiffith a letter alerting him to the copyright violation, stating Viktor was “willing to discuss a resolution of all her claims, consisting at a minimum of a public apology for the unauthorized use and a license fee.” In a new statement to Pitchfork, her lawyer said: “We tried to resolve this without litigation. Now that we are in Court, we are confident that Ms. Viktor will prevail.” In addition to damages, Viktor is asking that Kendrick and SZA cannot use her artwork to promote the song, according to TMZ. Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Lamar and SZA.

Viktor previously claimed representatives from Marvel contacted her in November 2016 and December 2017 about using her artwork in Black Panther, but she ultimately declined their offers, according to the Times. Nevertheless, images similar to her gilded “Constellations” series appear in Kendrick and SZA’s music video around the 2:59 mark. Earlier this week, Viktor posted about the situation on Facebook: “Feel reassured – I am seeking justice.” Find her statement below.
