On the EP, Leo Napier comments, “One of the first things that hit me upon regaining consciousness a few days after the operation was that, had I died, I would have taken all of my unheard music to the grave with me. I’ve dedicated most of my life to this craft and these songs. They’re the fragments that comprise the mosaic that is my identity, my soul. From now on, every song I’ve written is going back to the people I wrote them for. These songs are for you, as much as they are for me. My second life began after my heart stopped and restarted on August 18th, 2023. My career begins in earnest on April 30th, 2024, with the release of the ‘Philly Gritz EP.’”
If you’ve been waiting for a folk album that isn’t afraid to stretch beyond its roots, Woven Hollow’s debut, Figure of Light, is worth your time. Released on July 17, 2026, the 33-minute record finds Glenwood Springs, Colorado duo Anna Murphy and Van Wampler balancing acoustic intimacy with ambient electronic textures in a way that feels thoughtful rather than flashy.
The album has been years in the making, with recording beginning in 2019 and continuing through multiple studios, a pandemic, and contributions from more than a dozen collaborators. That patience shows. Every song feels carefully crafted, yet the record never loses its emotional core. The themes of love, technology, isolation, and human connection run through every track, giving the album a sense of purpose from beginning to end.
The title track immediately introduces the record’s shimmering atmosphere, while “Ten Feet Under” delivers some of its most affecting songwriting through reflections on grief and the passing of time. “Battle Line” expands the sonic palette with guest vocalist 42RAE, strings, and field snare, creating one of the album’s biggest emotional moments. Later, Nashville vocalist Rochelle Riser shines on “Don’t Worry Darling,” a heartfelt invitation to let go of shame and embrace vulnerability.
Murphy’s expanding instrumental range, including tenor guitar and banjo, pairs beautifully with Wampler’s production work at CinemaRaven Studios. The result is an album that comfortably sits between folk, indie, orchestral pop, and atmospheric production. Rather than choosing between the organic and the digital, Figure of Light embraces both, making Woven Hollow’s long-awaited debut feel honest, ambitious, and deeply human.
