Life of enigmatic rapper Gucci Mane to be made into biopic

Published

Back in January Gucci Mane announced on Twitter that he hoped to direct a movie based on his life.

Now, Paramount Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have acquired the rights to his autobiography to turn it into a biopic. According to Variety, Erica Higgins and Brian Grazer, whose work includes 8 Mile, A Beautiful Mind andFrost/Nixon, are set to produce the forthcoming movie.

The Atlanta rapper released The Autobiography of Gucci Mane last year in September, and it became a New York Times Bestseller.

The book covers Mane’s humble beginnings as a child growing up in Alabama, to pioneering trap music, his struggles with addiction, and time served behind bars between 2014 – 2016 for charges which included carrying a concealed weapon and possession of cannabis.

The rapper, who co-wrote the book with XXL journalist Neil Martinez-Belkin, told the Guardian back in 2016: “[Prison] was one of the best things that ever happened to me, looking back on it.”

In an interview with Vulture, he also revealed: “It took me going to prison to be able to sit down, write, and reflect on my life. I always knew that I was an amazing person, and I’m saying this as humbly as I can, but a lot of artists are super talented, but they’re not fascinating.

“That’s the whole thing with me. I’m like a mystique. I’m like an enigma… That’s why I wrote the book.”

Since leaving jail, Mane has turned his life around and been a workaholic. Earlier this week he announced a new collaborative mixtape titled The Eskimo Boys Vol. 1, teasing the cover art on his Instagram. The upcoming project should feature Lil WopHoodrich PabloLil QuillYoung Mal, and Ralo, who are all on his 1017 Eskimo label.

The star has also been busy working on a project with Lil Yachty and Migos, titled the Glacier Boyz, which is expected to drop this month.
