Newfoundland Thrash WITHIN THE REALM Unleash ‘Spiral of Terror’ From Debut Album ‘…Of Systemic Decay’ Out End of Oct 2026
Following the release of their first single "Into the Night," Newfoundland thrash metal force WITHIN THE REALM are set to unveil their next offering, "Spiral of Terror," the second single from their forthcoming debut full-length album "…Of Systemic Decay" out October 30th.
While "Into the Night" paid tribute to heavy metal's enduring spirit and sense of community, "Spiral of Terror" dives into far darker territory. The track explores the harrowing journey of a young person struggling with trauma, addiction, and fear while attempting to escape the grip of their past. Musically, the song showcases the band's signature blend of old-school thrash aggression, memorable hooks, and dynamic songwriting shaped by decades of metal influence.
"'Spiral of Terror' is one of the heavier and more emotionally charged songs on the album. It's about facing personal demons and the terrifying downward spiral that can happen when trauma and addiction take hold. We wanted the song to feel intense and overwhelming while still delivering the energy and power that metal fans expect," says bassist and lyricist Rick White.
Born from a shared passion for heavy metal and brotherhood, WITHIN THE REALM emerged with a mission to create music that reflects the many branches of the metal genre while staying rooted in the spirit of classic thrash. Their sound is self-described simply as "Within the Realm of METAL," combining influences from legendary acts such as Slayer, Megadeth, Sacred Reich, Sacrifice, and Sepultura with elements drawn from across the metal spectrum.
Recorded with a deliberately raw and unfiltered approach, "…Of Systemic Decay" captures the energy of a live performance without modern studio excess.
"We wanted a fast, thrash-driven record with an honest, unpolished sound. No click tracks, no autotune, just real performances and real metal," explains guitarist and vocalist Geoff Waye.
The album's themes range from paranormal phenomena, UFO conspiracies, government deception, and societal manipulation to personal struggles, resilience, and the unifying power of heavy metal culture. The album artwork reflects these concepts through an image of a decaying government structure standing amid an apocalyptic landscape, symbolizing the corruption and systemic decline explored throughout the record.
Featuring members whose resumes include Newfoundland metal acts Category VI, Triskelyon, Artach, Oberon, Festered Corpse, Sacrament A.D., Rapid Burial, Corporal Punishment, Last Soul Down, Jaded Truth, and Winterhearth, WITHIN THE REALM bridges decades of local metal history. The band's roots stretch back to the mid-1990s when White and Waye first performed together in the St. John's metal band Oberon, bringing a wealth of experience and chemistry into the project.
Although "…Of Systemic Decay" revisits material originally written between 2017 and 2019, the band views the album not as a look backward, but as a foundation for the future.
"We've all grown as musicians and as friends while making this record. It feels great to finally have these songs recorded after nearly ten years. I'm incredibly proud of the production, and I hope fans connect with it as much as we do," says drummer Mike Ryan.
With "Spiral of Terror," WITHIN THE REALM continue to showcase the depth and variety found throughout "…Of Systemic Decay," proving that their debut is more than a tribute to thrash metal's golden era. It is a statement of intent from a band determined to carry that legacy forward through raw passion, powerful songwriting, and unwavering authenticity.

Edmonton’s BONEYARD Ride Into the Wild West With New Video ‘Hanging Tree’ From Upcoming Album ‘Black Static’ Out Oct 2026
Canadian hard rock and heavy metal outfit Boneyard has released their third single and video, "Hanging Tree," taken from the forthcoming sophomore album "Black Static," due out on October 23, 2026.
Following the powerful first single "Before the Fall" and the high-seas battle anthem "Compass Points to War," Boneyard returns with a completely different side of their songwriting on the wildly entertaining "Hanging Tree."
A tongue-in-cheek Western metal adventure, "Hanging Tree" embraces camp, chaos, and classic storytelling. Built around country-inspired harmonies, crunchy metal riffs, and an infectious sense of fun, the track follows a wanted outlaw who "accidentally" robs a train, guns down a man, and finds himself pursued by the local sheriff. As the noose tightens, the outlaw reflects on his crimes, admitting that his only true regret is leaving behind the woman he loves before ultimately facing the infamous Hanging Tree.
According to vocalist and guitarist Pamtera, the accompanying video doubles down on the song's playful spirit. "The 'Hanging Tree' video is a tongue-in-cheek Western metal showdown like you've never seen before, packed with gunslingers, outlaws, a sultry goth cowgirl, and a hangman's noose. It's equal parts grit, groove, and gallows humor, showing Boneyard's ability to blend heavy hooks with cinematic flair."
Written and produced by the band, the video highlights not only Boneyard's musicianship but also the group's well-known sense of humour that has become a defining part of their identity both on and off stage.

Set for release on October 23, 2026, "Black Static" builds upon the foundation established by Boneyard's acclaimed debut album "Oathbreaker" while introducing fresh influences from the band's revitalized lineup.
Described by drummer Jefftimus as an extension of the band's first record, "Black Static" blends modern female-fronted hard rock with traditional heavy metal, classic hard rock, punk energy, and melodic songwriting. With the addition of bassist Lezzy and lead guitarist Garhardt, "Black Static" marks the first full-length release showcasing the chemistry and creative contributions of the band's current lineup.
"It's an extension of the first album Oathbreaker, having a diverse collection of songs. At the same time, it features different elements through Lezzy and Garhardt's unique contributions," adds Jefftimus.
The album features nine carefully selected tracks that were road-tested in front of live audiences over several years before making the final cut. Lyrically, the record draws from deeply personal experiences, social issues, mental health struggles, addiction, grief, perseverance, and hope. From the emotional heartbreak of "Met You in a Dream," to the crushing personal triumph of "Left Me to Drown," the devastating true story behind "Not This Way (Joel's Song)," and the uplifting messages found throughout the album, "Black Static" balances heaviness with humanity.
The album artwork once again comes courtesy of acclaimed Calgary artist Tom Bagley, whose illustrations featuring the band's mascot Misty Bone have become a signature element of Boneyard's visual identity.
Formed in 2015 by vocalist/guitarist Pamtera and drummer Jefftimus, Boneyard evolved from a successful cover band into one of Western Canada's most exciting hard rock and heavy metal acts.
After independently releasing their debut album "Oathbreaker" in 2020, the band caught the attention of Italy's WormHoleDeath Records, which reissued the album internationally in 2022. The record was mastered by Grammy-nominated and Juno-winning engineer Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Annihilator, Dokken) and helped establish the band on a global stage.
Since then, Boneyard has built a reputation for powerful live performances featuring soaring vocal harmonies, memorable hooks, and a unique blend of classic heavy metal and modern female-fronted hard rock. The band has shared stages with acts including 96 Bitter Beings, KingDoom, and Deadwolff, while performing at major Western Canadian events such as Decimate Metalfest, Pembina River Nights, and Métisfest.
Recommended for fans of Halestorm, Saxon, Doro, The Pretty Reckless, and Iron Maiden, "Black Static" will be available October 23, 2026, digitally and on CD, with a vinyl release to be announced later.
