Canadian-born, Bristol-bred and now London-based singer-songwriter Noah Villeneuve has officially unveiled his long-awaited debut solo album, Songs of Noah Villeneuve. Across ten deeply personal tracks, the multi-instrumentalist blends indie folk, alternative rock, Americana and melodic pop into a moving collection that captures the emotional highs and lows of heartbreak, recovery and self-discovery. Following years performing throughout the UK’s underground music scene, the album marks an exciting new beginning for one of independent music’s most compelling emerging voices.

Written during a transformative period of sobriety and personal growth, the record follows an emotional journey from loss and uncertainty towards acceptance and renewal. Villeneuve’s candid songwriting shines throughout, pairing evocative storytelling with memorable hooks and warm, organic instrumentation. Fans of The National, Bleachers, Leonard Cohen and The Cure will find plenty to love in an album that feels both intimate and expansive.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Josh Gallop at Stage 2 Studios in Bath, Songs of Noah Villeneuve showcases Villeneuve’s versatility, performing guitar, bass, piano and vocals across the project. Additional contributions from drummer Billy Golding, pedal steel player David Klinke Jørgensen and violinist Jessica Roch add rich texture to an already beautifully crafted collection, helping each song breathe with subtle emotional depth.

With standout tracks including ‘Kneejerk’, ‘Saboteur’, ‘Moonbeams’ and the poignant closer ‘Lacunae’, Songs of Noah Villeneuve arrives as a confident and emotionally rewarding debut. Honest, melodic and quietly captivating, it’s a record that confirms Noah Villeneuve is an artist well worth following as he begins this exciting new chapter.

Plain Mister Smith Pieces Together a World of Sound on Bric-À-Brac Attack

Published

on

Plain Mister Smith returns with Bric-À-Brac Attack, a beautifully offbeat collection of indie-folk, pop and atmospheric songwriting. Released via Amelia Records, the album finds the Vancouver and London-based multi-hyphenate turning fragments of memory, relationships and everyday absurdity into something quietly cinematic.

At its centre is “Grindavik”, a shimmering, reflective track inspired by the Icelandic town shaped by recent volcanic activity. Bright acoustic guitars and steady drums carry a constantly shifting chord progression, mirroring the song’s central metaphor of a relationship under pressure and the hope that its fissures can eventually heal. Featuring Jordan Klassen and Kitt, the track captures the emotional tension that runs throughout the album.

Elsewhere, Bric-À-Brac Attack moves effortlessly between playful guitar-driven moments, lush arrangements and more introspective passages. “Miss Sunshine” brings infectious energy, while collaborations with Findlay Brown, Leeroy Stagger, Krystle Dos Santos and Tyson Mostenbocher add colour to an already eclectic record.

Former guitarist of Canadian darkwave band Moev and a cellist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, Plain Mister Smith brings an unusually broad musical perspective to his songwriting. Yet Bric-a-Brac attack never feels overly calculated. Instead, it has the charm of something discovered rather than constructed.

Warm, strange, melodic and emotionally searching, Bric-À-Brac Attack is a record that rewards getting lost in its details. Plain Mister Smith may remain deliberately mysterious, but the music itself speaks with remarkable clarity.
