Octavia Spencer’s Madam C.J. Walker limited series will be produced by LeBron James & is likely headed to Netflix Octavia Spencer’s limited series on Madam C.J. Walker will be exec produced by LeBron James and it is likely headed to Netflix! On Tuesday, it was announced that LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment is developing the project, which we’ve known for a while had Spencer attached to star. According to Variety, who reported the news, Netflix is interested in the series and it will likely land there. It is based on “On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker,” said to be the definitive biography Walker, which was written by her great-great-granddaughter, A’Lelia Bundles. The book was optioned by Zero Gravity Management’s Mark and Christine Holder, and when Spencer found out about it, she has petitioned for the part for the last couple of years. Nicole Asher was tapped to write. After Spencer was officially attached to the role, James and his partner Maverick Carter, were pitched the project by WME as their foray into this genre. “I am really proud of this project and that SpringHill will be partnering with Octavia to tell this important story. “Every American should all know the story of Madam C.J. Walker. She was an innovator, entrepreneur, social activist, and total game changer whose story has been left out of the history books. I hope this project lives up to her legacy with a story that will educate and inspire,” said James. “It’s so exciting for all of us to keep building SpringHill, see it mature, and continue to find its voice. We are really focused on growing with authenticity and substance. For us, this is totally about great stories and great partners. Partnering with Octavia to tell the story of Madam C.J. Walker is the ideal first project for SpringHill to take an important step into scripted drama,” said Carter. SpringHill Entertainment currently has Survivor’s Remorse on Starz and is working on a sneaker culture comedy for HBO.
