Rising Star izzi Unleashes Phenomenal New Track “Make Me Watch”

Published

on

“Make Me Watch”, out now courtesy of Now Listen, is the kind of track that can catch you out. The rhythm has an immediate lift, but spend a little more time with the lyrics and the mood starts to change.

izzi keeps the vocal writing tight, using short lines and repeated commands that give the song a restless quality. Then come the details: a basement, a rear-view mirror, a laptop screen, someone being told to watch. The lyrics keep moving between different scenes without stopping to overexplain them.

That works particularly well when the song reaches its more personal moments. The references to rent and addiction bring money into the picture, while the closing mention of a promise of love adds another complication to the relationship at the centre of the song.

The production deserves plenty of credit too. Its dancey feel gives the track an instant sense of momentum, but the words are constantly pulling in another direction. Rather than making the music and subject compete, izzi uses that difference to keep the listener alert.

There is plenty of confidence in the way the track has been put together. izzi handled the writing, recording and production herself, and the result feels like a complete piece rather than a vocal laid over a backing track.

It is also a useful introduction to what makes izzi interesting as an independent artist. She is willing to tackle difficult subjects, but she is equally interested in making music that has movement, hooks and its own character.

“Make Me Watch” manages to be immediate without giving everything away on first listen. Give it another spin and there is more to pick apart.

Naomi Aguilera casts her spell with her new single BB ILY

Two years ago, Naomi Aguilera walked onto my radar with EGO, an infectious soulful pop debut that made it impossible not to move. Fast forward to her debut EP Mosaïques, and it was clear she wasn’t just passing through. Personal, colorful, rooted in her Spanish heritage & Brussels upbringing, it even earned her a spot as Apple Music Benelux’s Up Next artist!

Now she’s back with BB ILY, marking the start of a new era. The bilingual single — French and English — is built around one of the most universal human experiences: that special connection that doesn’t need translation. Where EGO invited you to forget your ex on the dancefloor, BB ILY pulls you somewhere more intimate: with sultry beats courtesy of Turana, it’s a dance where gestures, whispers, sighs and the sound of a voice matters more than the words that come out of it… It’s sensual, a little mystical, and entirely her own.

First taste of Naomi Aguilera’s upcoming project Ojalá, due in 2027, it feels effortlessly catchy. This is the kind of track that casts its spell quietly, with interesting and unexpected rhythmic shifts in the verses, and a delicious chorus that lodges itself in your head before you even notice. By the time you do, it’s too late. But you won’t find me complaining about it!
