Sonny E. Bends Time with Cyberbilly — The Story Behind “Time”

When Sonny E. released his new single “Time” on 5th September, it wasn’t just another track in the endless list of songs dedicated to time. Instead, it’s the crystallisation of a decades-long artistic journey, from rockabilly riffs on cheap Woolworth’s guitars to rave anthems that defined an era, now reborn as Cyberbilly.

The man behind the name is Adam Paul Tinley, better known to a generation as Adamski, the pioneer whose “NRG” and chart-topping collaborations helped shape the early Acid House and rave scenes. But Sonny E. isn’t looking backwards. Instead, he’s fusing his earliest teenage obsessions with the newest technological frontiers.

Rockabilly, with its swaggering rhythm and rebellious edge, was his first love. Electronic music — from Suicide and Devo to Derrick May and DJ Pierre — expanded his imagination. The Balearic nights of Ibiza, the underground squats of Hackney, the neon-lit raves of the 90s… all of these fed into a restless creativity.

Now, after decades of exploration, Sonny E. distills these worlds into something new:

“I call it Cyberbilly,” he says. “It’s a hybrid of the Big Bang of pop culture — rockabilly — and the latest tools of our digital age. I’m a teddy boy timelord with a laptop and a microphone.”

“Time” itself is a fitting debut, a song written in fragments over decades, finished without rush, and released at the moment it feels right. Just over two minutes long, it’s sharp, immediate, and confident in its simplicity.

Rocky Kramer was recently cast in The Mutt Productions/ Allied Artists rock n’ roll time travel comedy adventure “Rockin’ In Time” where he will play the film’s lead character, Lars Olsen. The film is being directed by Aaron Lee Lopez (of the “Teenage Girl” franchise) and is being produced by multi-platinum and six-time Grammy Award winning musician turned motion picture producer, Kurt Wipfli.

Rocky Kramer is now the new lead guitarist in Prescott Niles’ new revival of the legendary band The Knack. Known worldwide for their smash hit “My Sharona,” The Knack helped define the sound of late-1970s power pop and rock. Decades later, the band’s influence continues to resonate with fans and musicians across generations. With Rocky Kramer now joining the lineup, the band is poised to introduce that legacy to a new era of audiences while honoring the spirit that made them legendary.
