‘Terrestrial’ Lands in Theaters: Jermaine Fowler, Craig Robinson and Rob Corddry Lead a Dark Sci-Fi Thriller
A reunion weekend turns into something far stranger in Terrestrial, the dark sci-fi thriller that opens in limited release today (October 23) from indie distributor Aero Films.
Jermaine Fowler stars as Allen Perkins, a once-struggling science-fiction writer who has suddenly — and suspiciously — come into money, a Hollywood Hills mansion and a supposed major book-and-movie deal. When his college friends arrive to celebrate, at the quiet urging of his worried mother, his story doesn’t add up: there are gaps in his account of his success, a mysterious covered guesthouse on the property, and behavior that grows more unsettling by the hour.
Directed by Steve Pink and written by Samuel Johnson and Connor Diedrich, the film co-stars James Morosini, Pauline Chalamet and Edy Modica, with Craig Robinson as Edos and Rob Corddry as Captain Baldwin in supporting roles, alongside Rob Yang and Brendan Hunt.
Terrestrial premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in 2025 to positive notices, and arrives in theaters carrying a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes. At a tight 94 minutes, it blends dark comedy with slow-burn sci-fi dread — a smaller title amid the weekend’s blockbusters, but one with the reviews to reward audiences who find it.

Beth de Araújo Wins Breakthrough Director Award at Montclair for ‘Josephine’
The Montclair Film Festival has named Beth de Araújo its 2026 Breakthrough Director, honoring the filmmaker on Sunday, October 18 at The Bellevue Theatre following a screening of her new film, Josephine.
In presenting the award, the festival praised de Araújo’s “compassionate and deeply felt exploration of trauma, humanity, and the responsibilities that bind us to one another” — the qualities that have marked her rise as one of the most closely watched American directors of her generation.
De Araújo first drew major attention as the writer and director of Soft & Quiet, her blistering debut feature, which premiered at SXSW and earned her a place on year-end lists and awards ballots for breakthrough filmmaking. Josephine is her second feature, and the Montclair honor — part of the festival’s annual Honors program, which this year also salutes Ava DuVernay and Tony Gilroy — confirms her standing as a director whose work travels.
The 14th Montclair Film Festival runs October 16–25 in Montclair, New Jersey.
