Acclaimed UK songwriter Emma Gale has been revealed as the creative force behind Croatia’s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The track, titled “Poison Cake,” will compete in the first semi-final on 13 May 2025, as the international music event kicks off in Basel, Switzerland.

Emma Gale, best known for her ability to capture the moment with her lyricism and distinctive songwriting style , began writing for Eurovision just two years ago, following a serendipitous meeting with a publisher passionate about the contest. “Poison Cake” marks her first entry into the Eurovision arena and represents a bold step forward in her evolution from indie folk artist to sought-after international pop songwriter.

Originally from Weymouth, Dorset, Gale cut her teeth as a cover singer before embracing songwriting as her true calling. She describes herself as an “accidental indie folk artist”—a title earned when her debut single, Let’s See What the Earth Has to Say, went viral during the 2020 lockdown. Her subsequent self-titled album, released in 2022, was hailed for its authentic, observational lyrics and received widespread radio play across the UK, Europe, and North America.

Gale’s songwriting credentials are extensive. After completing a Master’s in Songwriting at Bath Spa University, she participated in songwriting retreats and camps led by renowned artists and educators such as Boo Hewerdine, Mary Gauthier, Pat Pattison, and Judy Stakee. She’s also received mentorship from respected figures like Chris Difford (Squeeze) and Robin Frederick.

Emma Gale’s star has continued to rise with accolades including DWB Best Newcomer 2022, DWB Songwriter of the Year 2024. She has recently signed with The Woods, publishers in Norway, where she collaborates with songwriters across the globe to craft songs for the pop, K-pop, and Eurovision markets.

In addition to her songwriting work, Gale is pursuing a PhD at Birmingham City University, researching the role of the amateur songwriter in the modern music industry. A Grammy Voting Member and mentor with Help Musicians UK, she continues to inspire both emerging and established artists.

As Eurovision fans across the continent turn their attention to Basel, all eyes will be on “Poison Cake”—a track sure to blend Gale’s lyrical finesse with the bold energy that the Eurovision stage demands.

Last Train to play UK dates!

After ‘Weathering’ and ‘The Big Picture’, acclaimed Lyon-based 4-piece Last Train‘s new album is a direct reflection of raw anger. Recorded in a crumbling, unheated chateau, ‘III’ channels frustration into meticulously composed rock. Formed in the 2010s, Jean-Noël Scherrer, Julien Peultier, Timothée Gérard and Antoine Baschung gained a strong following with their first two albums and toured with Muse and Placebo. In 2024 they released ‘Original Motion Picture Soundtrack’, an orchestral reworking of their songs, but the new album marks their true return to form as a rock band. Tracks like the first two singles ‘Home’ and ‘The Plan’ combine rock energy with melody, balancing emotional depth and anger.

With ‘III’, Last Train have produced a radical and authentic third album, far from the aseptic super-productions. With ‘One by One’ – the focus track, you’ll feel right in the band’s rehearsal room: screeching feedback, punchy drums, overflowing bass and incisive choruses. Provocative as it is, the track embodies a frantic race: the train will go on, with or without us. Mature, confident and increasingly daring, these ambassadors of French rock continue their dizzying ascent, no matter how high the wall!

The band are touring Europe extensively this year in support of the album, including a headline London show and appearances at Focus Wales and The Great Escape Festival. Don’t miss the chance to catch them live in all of their glory.

Upcoming UK shows:

8.05: Focus Wales, Wrexham (20:15- Ty Pawb)

10.05: Focus Wales, Wrexham (19:25- Penny Black)

12.05: The Grace, London (Headline show)

16.05: The Great Escape, Brighton (7pm at The Wing at The Brighton Centre).
