Bremen is bringing a state championship home to Haralson County. The Blue Devils swept Gordon Lee 3-0 on Thursday afternoon in the GHSA Class A/AA state final at LakePoint Sports Champions Center in Cartersville.

The final opened championship Thursday at LakePoint, with the Class A/AA title decided at 1 p.m. ahead of the Class 4A and Class 6A finals later in the day.

Bremen entered the final at 33-10 and never gave the Trojans room to breathe, closing out the title in straight sets. One year ago, Bremen reached the Class A championship match and came home as the runner up. This time, the Blue Devils finished the job.

The title capped a strong run through the bracket. Bremen opened the playoffs with a 3-0 win over Jasper County, swept Coosa 3-0 in the second round, outlasted Elite Scholars Academy 3-2 in the quarterfinals, and beat Model 3-1 in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Gordon Lee arrived at 43-4 after a five set semifinal win over Savannah Arts Academy. The Trojans had swept Drew Charter, Thomasville and Oglethorpe County earlier in the tournament, but the final belonged to Bremen from the start.

The championship rewarded a Bremen group that played its best volleyball when it mattered most. The Blue Devils won their final five matches of the season, and the last one ended with the whole team gathered around the GHSA Champions sign, the gold trophy held in the middle.

Gordon Lee finished the season 43-5 with a state runner up finish. Bremen closed the year 34-10, and the Blue Devils now own a state championship that started with two straight sweeps and ended with one more.
