Du Malai Uncovers New Hit Single “Heart Bus Desire”
Rising artist Du Malai has once again demonstrated his unparalleled creative prowess with the release of his latest single, “Heart Bus Desire”. This compelling track serves as a tantalising glimpse into his forthcoming EP, slated to arrive on Valentine’s Day next year. Following the success of his previous release, “Heart Bus Despair”, Du Malai’s newest offering showcases his evolution as a musician and storyteller.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, raised in the vibrant atmosphere of the Bronx, New York, and now based in San Antonio, Texas, Du Malai has crafted a distinct musical identity that seamlessly fuses Afrobeats with elements of R&B, hip-hop, pop and rock. A masterful choreographer and unapologetic blerd, Du Malai’s multidimensional talents shine brilliantly on “Heart Bus Desire”.
“Heart Bus Desire” emerges as a culmination of Du Malai’s artistic vision and collaborative energy. The song’s origin is rooted in the captivating beat “Crash” meticulously crafted by Namor ATL. Du Malai’s decision to craft lyrics around this entrancing backdrop signifies a conscious storytelling choice – one that brings his message to life with authenticity.
Commenting on the creation of the track, Du Malai shared, “I heard ‘Crash’, a beat made by Namor ATL, and knew that I wanted to create a song for it. If ‘Heart Bus Despair’ is about emotional regulation, the desires journey is about seeing yourself in love. For the song ‘Desire’ I wanted to explore the hard question of loving someone in the hopes they will fulfil your needs, when really that’s an inside job not an external one.”
At the heart of “Heart Bus Desire” lies a profound concept – the heart bus, a metaphor for the diverse destinations our hearts lead us to. Through the lens of “Desire”, Du Malai raises introspective questions about the alignment between our needs and our true desires. The track encapsulates the intricacies of human emotions, offering listeners a chance to embark on a soul-stirring sonic journey.
Du Malai’s ability to bridge the gap between musical genres and cultural influences is a testament to his status as an emerging force in the music industry. His fearless approach to pushing boundaries and exploring uncharted territory sets the stage for an EP that promises to be a defining moment in his career. “Heart Bus Desire” is available to buy/stream now on all platforms.

Plain Mister Smith Pieces Together a World of Sound on Bric-À-Brac Attack
Plain Mister Smith returns with Bric-À-Brac Attack, a beautifully offbeat collection of indie-folk, pop and atmospheric songwriting. Released via Amelia Records, the album finds the Vancouver and London-based multi-hyphenate turning fragments of memory, relationships and everyday absurdity into something quietly cinematic.
At its centre is “Grindavik”, a shimmering, reflective track inspired by the Icelandic town shaped by recent volcanic activity. Bright acoustic guitars and steady drums carry a constantly shifting chord progression, mirroring the song’s central metaphor of a relationship under pressure and the hope that its fissures can eventually heal. Featuring Jordan Klassen and Kitt, the track captures the emotional tension that runs throughout the album.
Elsewhere, Bric-À-Brac Attack moves effortlessly between playful guitar-driven moments, lush arrangements and more introspective passages. “Miss Sunshine” brings infectious energy, while collaborations with Findlay Brown, Leeroy Stagger, Krystle Dos Santos and Tyson Mostenbocher add colour to an already eclectic record.
Former guitarist of Canadian darkwave band Moev and a cellist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, Plain Mister Smith brings an unusually broad musical perspective to his songwriting. Yet Bric-a-Brac attack never feels overly calculated. Instead, it has the charm of something discovered rather than constructed.
Warm, strange, melodic and emotionally searching, Bric-À-Brac Attack is a record that rewards getting lost in its details. Plain Mister Smith may remain deliberately mysterious, but the music itself speaks with remarkable clarity.
