Gino Black Speaks To All The Black Boys

On Friday, February 2nd 2024, Gino Black released, “BLACK BOY” via Powerblast Worldwide. “BLACK BOY” is an introspective look at oneself from the eyes of a black man in America. He examines his own psyche as well narrate a tale about a troubled young black male. “BLACK BOY” is a mid tempo introspective rap song about growing up as a troubled young black boy in what the artist calls “Amerikkka”. This song has a warm inviting rhythm and cadence in which others can pleasantly groove and absorb this lyrical cautionary tale.
“I’ve spent the better part of the last two years making motivational rap music with positive messages”, says Gino Black regarding the inspiration behind “BLACK BOY”. This song is his followup track to his wildly popular song, “OH MY GAWD (OMG)” Since 2021, Gino Black has consistently released a slew (38 songs) of underground bangers by way of releasing new single songs every month. The South Florida based artist and producer and he has released some very memorable and successful songs over the years. He’s recently been gaining quite a buzz with songs like, “Bullets”, “Take 2 Me”, “Hustle”, “Wonderland”, the electronic dance song, “Forever Summer”, “Melanated” and the heartfelt dedication to his grandmother, “Someday”. He’s best known for “Esoteric Men”, his collaboration with Cincinnati based artist, Blakk North; which is approaching 200,000 streams. DJ Exes & Slamming Gavel Music drop “Material Things”
“He gave you power. I made you fresh though.” DJ Exes and his production partner Slamming Gavel Music drop new single “Material Things” (with accompanying video treatment). An ambitious storytelling joint, the track is a continuation of Nas’s classic “I gave you power” which was told from the point of a gun. Exes and Gavel’s track, is the viewpoint of the gun owner’s treasured pair of Air Force One sneakers.

Another single from the project “Criollo Vernacular” recently dropped with video Directed by Box-Lo. Flexing his conceptual muscles Exes uses this track comparing his craft to a culinary master does in the kitchen. As he says “Salsa Criolla is a vibrant sauce used in a variety of dishes in Puerto Rican cuisine. Like the combination of tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and garlic, this track is a mix of Spanish and English rhymes over the hard boom bap production.”

The culmination of a friendship that formed as Exes recalled “in 1992 through one of his closest friends. Slamming Gavel is the cousin of Grand Phunk aka Big Stats frm The Lastrawze. He came down to visit Stats who I was in school with at the time and we instantly connected over our love for hiphop, kungfu flicks, and just buggin out. We’ve been friends ever since. The Slamming Gavel didn’t start producing until years later but when he finally let me hear something, the fire was lit.”
Listeners will also know DJ Exes as the main mouth of Spanglish Boom-Bap triumvirate Grupo HNE (pronounced Henny) with Producer DJ Heron and multi-instrumentalist Nando (percussion, keyboards, vocals). As well as a sizable discography, mixtapes and live event DJ work of his own.
