Downtown attraction brings interactive illusions to DOCO; tickets on sale October 15

Museum of Illusions, the largest and fastest growing private museum with immersive rooms, stand-alone illusions, and holograms and prints designed to deceive the eye and bend perceptions, today announced it is reimagining reality in Northern California. The brand’s newest location, Museum of Illusions Sacramento, will open its doors on November 6. Located at 405 K Street, Suite 110, the 10,000-square-foot museum is the brand’s 72nd location worldwide, third location in California (joining Museum of Illusions San Diego and Santa Monica which opened in 2025) and first in the northern region of the state.

With a downtown address that draws locals, commuters and visitors alike, the museum gives Sacramento’s Wonder Seekers a new place to gather, play and explore together. Museum of Illusions Sacramento combines entertainment and education in a format that sparks curiosity in visitors of every age. Hands-on exhibits invite guests to experience each illusion and discover the science behind how the eye and brain interpret what we see.

“Sacramento’s history is full of illusions, from Gold Rush-era storefronts built to look grander than they were, to the promise of fortune that wasn’t always what it seemed. This city is a natural fit for Museum of Illusions,” said Kim Schaefer, CEO of Museum of Illusions. “This is a place where families, friends and coworkers can step inside an illusion together and leave with a story and a photo to match.”

Rather than a one-size-fits-all experience, Museum of Illusions Sacramento was designed with the city’s own history in mind, having several signature exhibits draw inspiration from Sacramento’s Gold Rush roots. Guests can look forward to over 70 exhibits and attractions throughout the museum, including Building Illusion, Following Eyes and Reverse Room.

To celebrate the opening of the new location, Museum of Illusions Sacramento is giving guests two reasons to be among the first through the door. Through November 5, the Book Early Offer lets guests lock in buy-one-get-one-free tickets when they purchase through the ticket link. Then, once the doors officially open, the Grand Opening Offer keeps the celebration going with 20% off tickets for the museum’s first four weeks, from November 6 through December 4.

Museum of Illusions Sacramento is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. General admission starts at $30 for adults and $26 for children ages 5-12. Illusion Experts are on hand to help Wonder Seekers and new guests capture the best photo at every exhibit and explain why exactly their eyes are being deceived.

The Call Me Mother Experience Brings Immersive Art and Maternal Health Stories to Houston’s Health Museum

The Call Me Mother Experience, an immersive multi-site art exhibit dedicated to the stories of the Black maternal health crisis, is now open at The Health Museum, 1515 Hermann Drive in Houston. The exhibition runs through February 28, 2027, and tickets range from $12 to $15.

Visitors should prepare for an immersive experience that includes poetry, film, performance, 3D sculptures, and original paintings created by a collective of nationally and internationally recognized artists, including D.E.E.P., Omari Maynard, Stacey Allen, Keda Sharber, and many others.

The exhibit walks visitors toward an opening question and into a reimagined waiting room, showing perspectives that range from father to mother and from despair to healing. Each site displays familial love and the grief that comes with the Black maternal health crisis in America, ending in a call to action.

“After two years working in the community to amplify local stories, I hope people see this exhibit as a celebration of our collective voices in the fight for maternal equity,” says D.E.E.P. “Every artist in the collective has had their own personal experience, be it infant death, fibroids, or birth complications. We have lived through these losses. We are using our art to demand better maternal healthcare practices in our lifetime.”

The stakes behind the exhibit are stark. As of 2024, Black women are three times more likely to die a pregnancy-related death than white women, and more than 80% of these deaths are preventable, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Call Me Mother Experience is a Deep Ink project, fiscally sponsored by Fresh Arts, a Houston-based 501(c)(3) arts service organization, with generous support from H-E-B and several other philanthropic organizations. Additional satellite activations are planned at community sites and faith-based organizations throughout the Greater Houston area.
