One Point for First Place: Lambert Edges North Forsyth 19-18 in Forsyth County’s Game of the Year
Lambert and North Forsyth walked into Wolverine Stadium on Thursday night as the two best teams in Forsyth County, with first place in Division 5 Area 6 on the line. They walked out separated by a single point. Lambert won 19-18 in the opener of a GPB streamed triple header at West Forsyth, and the Longhorns now sit alone on top of the area with the state playoffs two weeks away.
The Longhorns, 15 wins and two losses this fall, lead Area 6 at two wins and no losses in area play, with 52 points scored and just 18 allowed across those two games. The win ran their streak to seven straight, and MaxPreps placed Lambert at No. 7 in Georgia in its Nov. 2 state rankings. Below them, the race for the remaining playoff spots has tightened into a logjam, which made Thursday’s single point worth even more.
The quarterback matchup matched the stakes. On the season, Lambert quarterback Tessa Sosniin has thrown for 2,504 yards and 48 touchdowns, fifth in Georgia on the MaxPreps leader board, completing 213 of 307 passes across 17 games. North Forsyth quarterback Emma Bourque has thrown for 2,011 yards and 35 touchdowns in 15 games. Two of the most productive passers in the state shared the field, and the game came down to one play, exactly as advertised.
North Forsyth, 13 wins and two losses, did not leave the week empty handed. The Raiders beat South Forsyth 12-7 in an area game on Tuesday night and still control their own playoff position, with a home game against West Forsyth arriving on Nov. 3. Lambert closes area play at Forsyth Central on Nov. 3, then hosts South Forsyth on Nov. 5 and Denmark on Nov. 10. The GHSA state playoffs open Nov. 18, and if Thursday night proved anything, it is that Forsyth County plans to be heard from when they do.

James Clemens Gets the Hardest Draw in 6A: A Playoff Trip to Hewitt-Trussville
Every bracket has a draw nobody wants, and in Class 6A it belongs to James Clemens. The Jets travel to Hewitt-Trussville on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. for a first round playoff game, a road trip confirmed on Hewitt-Trussville’s official athletics schedule.
James Clemens, from Madison, won six of its 14 games and closed the regular season the right way, with a 6-0 shutout win at Columbia on Oct. 27. The Jets’ wins include a 36-6 rout of Bob Jones, a 35-0 shutout of St. John Paul II, a 31-13 win over Mae Jemison on Oct. 20 and an 18-0 shutout of Hazel Green. The losses show the gap the Jets have to close. Gadsden City beat them 36-6 on Oct. 22, and Sparkman edged them 13-6 on Oct. 13.
Hewitt-Trussville is the standard on the other sideline. The Huskies are one of the powers of the 6A bracket, and the program’s flag account still points to the inaugural state title it won in 2021, before flag became an official AHSAA championship sport.
Three of the Jets’ six wins were shutouts, so the defense has traveled before. The game is also one of eight first round matchups in the Class 6A bracket, while eight other teams, including Spain Park and Smiths Station, sit out the week on byes and wait for the winners.
For James Clemens, the math is simple. The Jets have already shown they can pitch a shutout and score in bunches against their own level. Tuesday asks them to do it in the hardest building in the bracket.
