Sampa the Great Reclaims Her Roots on Third Album ‘Nu Zamrock’

Published

Sampa the Great poses on the red carpet at her Nu Zamrock album event in a black and white patterned dress and tall black boots.

Sampa the Great has always carried Zambia with her. On Nu Zamrock, her third album, out today, Friday, October 30, on Loma Vista, she plugs straight into the source.

The 16 track album is her first since 2022’s As Above, So Below, and it is built on Zamrock, the fuzz drenched rock sound that came out of Zambia in the 1970s. This is not homework for Sampa. It is family history. Her uncle George played in that world, and executive producer Cadenza helps her rebuild its guitars and groove underneath her unmistakable flow.

The singles told the story ahead of the album. “Can’t Hold Us,” featuring Mwanjé, “Simon Says” and “Location” each carry the same charge: a Zambian born, Botswana raised, Melbourne based artist done explaining herself and ready to be loud about where she comes from.

Three albums in, Sampa remains one of the most commanding voices in rap anywhere on earth. Nu Zamrock is her loudest statement yet, because it is her most personal one.

Nu Zamrock is streaming now on all platforms.

Coi Leray and Lucky Daye Pour Up ‘Milk N Cookies’ for the Holidays

Coi Leray poses against a brick wall in a plaid jacket with a fur collar and tinted sunglasses.

Halloween is not even over and Coi Leray is already leaving something out for Santa. Her new single “Milk N Cookies,” featuring Lucky Daye, is out now, a cozy holiday record that pairs her melodic bounce with Lucky Daye’s smooth R&B croon in a quick two minutes and forty seconds.

The song is one of the standouts from Epic Presents: Holiday Radio, Epic Records’ new 14 track Christmas compilation, also out today, with Meghan Trainor taking on “Frosty the Snowman,” Giveon covering a traditional carol, and contributions from Mariah the Scientist, BIA, UMI and more.

For Coi, it lands about six weeks after “Nothing Into Something,” her team up with Diplo, and it shows the range she has been building since “Players” made her a global name: one month a dance floor record, the next a Christmas duet, and both sound like her.

“Milk N Cookies” and Epic Presents: Holiday Radio are streaming now on all platforms.
