Bootie Brown Keeps Alternative Hip-Hop Moving Forward With ‘2 Get 2 U’

Three-time Grammy-nominated artist and The Pharcyde founding member Bootie Brown returns with his latest solo single, ‘2 Get 2 U’, a smooth and playful hip-hop cut exploring the lengths men will go to capture someone’s attention.

Born Romye Robinson, Brown has spent decades helping push alternative hip-hop into unexpected territory. As a founding member of The Pharcyde, he contributed to seminal tracks including ‘Passin’ Me By’ and ‘Drop’, while later collaborations have introduced his distinctive delivery to new generations, most notably through Gorillaz tracks ‘Dirty Harry’ and ‘New Gold’.

‘2 Get 2 U’ brings that unmistakable personality into his latest chapter, pairing a relaxed groove with Brown’s character-driven storytelling.

“What ‘2 Get 2 U’ means to me is the various ways men will try to seduce a woman,” Brown explains.

The track also grew out of Brown’s work supporting emerging producers through OrganicBeat Session, his PharcydeTV show showcasing beatmakers and new creative talent. It was through the platform that he discovered producer Les Lockheart.

“I heard this track and knew I could create something special with it,” Brown says. “I have been working on it for some time now, and it’s ready for me to share with the people.”

The resulting collaboration combines Lockheart’s production with Brown’s seasoned delivery, connecting the playful individuality that has defined his career with the new sounds and artists continuing to capture his attention.

The single arrives during another busy period for Brown, who is currently touring with Gorillaz ahead of the upcoming US leg. His recent collaborative work also includes Nubiyan Twist’s ‘Red Herring’ and Africa Express track ‘Otim Hop’, while his wider creative ventures span PharcydeTV and co-ownership of Store No 242.

Decades after helping shape alternative hip-hop with The Pharcyde, ‘2 Get 2 U’ finds Bootie Brown still driven by collaboration, curiosity and character, bringing his unmistakable personality into another new chapter.

Naomi Aguilera casts her spell with her new single BB ILY

Two years ago, Naomi Aguilera walked onto my radar with EGO, an infectious soulful pop debut that made it impossible not to move. Fast forward to her debut EP Mosaïques, and it was clear she wasn’t just passing through. Personal, colorful, rooted in her Spanish heritage & Brussels upbringing, it even earned her a spot as Apple Music Benelux’s Up Next artist!

Now she’s back with BB ILY, marking the start of a new era. The bilingual single — French and English — is built around one of the most universal human experiences: that special connection that doesn’t need translation. Where EGO invited you to forget your ex on the dancefloor, BB ILY pulls you somewhere more intimate: with sultry beats courtesy of Turana, it’s a dance where gestures, whispers, sighs and the sound of a voice matters more than the words that come out of it… It’s sensual, a little mystical, and entirely her own.

First taste of Naomi Aguilera’s upcoming project Ojalá, due in 2027, it feels effortlessly catchy. This is the kind of track that casts its spell quietly, with interesting and unexpected rhythmic shifts in the verses, and a delicious chorus that lodges itself in your head before you even notice. By the time you do, it’s too late. But you won’t find me complaining about it!
