Colts Trade Pro Bowlers Quenton Nelson to Seahawks, DeForest Buckner to 49ers in Deadline Fire Sale
The Indianapolis Colts traded two franchise cornerstones on Tuesday, sending eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner back to the San Francisco 49ers, one week after firing general manager Chris Ballard.
Indianapolis announced it agreed to trade Nelson, 30, to Seattle for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick, in a deal pending a physical. Nelson, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 draft out of Notre Dame, has made the Pro Bowl in all eight of his previous seasons, earned three first-team All-Pro selections and started all 136 games he has played. He is in the final season of a four-year, $80 million contract. The defending champion Seahawks (4-3) plan to play Nelson at left guard, which would move 2025 first-round pick Grey Zabel to right guard, where he played in college.
Hours later, the Colts announced they had traded Buckner, 32, to San Francisco for a 2027 fourth-round pick. Buckner returns to the team that drafted him seventh overall in 2016 and traded him to Indianapolis in 2020 for a first-round pick. In seven games this season, Buckner has 31 tackles, four sacks, eight quarterback hits, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery, and his four sacks are more than any player on the 49ers’ roster this season. He has 75.5 sacks in 11 NFL seasons.
San Francisco (6-1) adds Buckner to an injury-ravaged defensive line that has played much of the season without Nick Bosa and several other linemen, and the 49ers’ bye week gives him extra time to get acclimated before their next game.
The Colts (2-5) do not own a 2027 first-round pick after last season’s trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner, and Tuesday’s deals added a 2027 third-rounder, a 2027 fourth-rounder and a 2028 fifth-rounder to their stock under interim general manager Ed Dodds. The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10.

Cowboys Run Past Eagles 38-21 on Monday Night Football Behind Prescott, Williams
The Dallas Cowboys saved their season for another week, beating the injury-depleted Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday night to end a two-game losing streak and move to 3-4.
Dak Prescott threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, connecting twice with CeeDee Lamb and once with George Pickens. Lamb caught five passes for 74 yards and two scores, and Pickens had four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. Javonte Williams powered the ground game with a career-high 155 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries — the first 150-yard rushing game by a Cowboy since Ezekiel Elliott in 2018 — as Dallas ran 38 times for 204 yards against an Eagles defense that recorded no tackles for loss.
The game swung back and forth through six lead changes. The last came late in the third quarter, when Lamb’s 16-yard touchdown reception and Prescott’s two-point conversion put Dallas ahead 28-21 with 1:30 left in the period. The Cowboys then shut out Philadelphia in the fourth quarter, adding a Brandon Aubrey field goal and Williams’ late touchdown run.
Philadelphia (2-5) has lost five straight. The Eagles played without quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks, and they finished the night without both of their running backs. Saquon Barkley, returning after missing two games with a hamstring injury, scored on the Eagles’ opening drive and ran seven times for 62 yards before leaving with a back injury. Dameon Pierce ran 14 times for 47 yards and a touchdown before leaving in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury.
Tanner McKee, making his second straight start in place of Hurts, went 23 of 35 for 211 yards with a touchdown and an interception, picked off by Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown in the second half. Rookie Makai Lemon caught seven passes for 67 yards and his first career touchdown for Philadelphia.
Dallas moved into second place in the NFC East behind the New York Giants with the win, while Philadelphia’s postseason hopes took another hit heading into a Week 8 trip to Washington.
