Dead Chic release ‘Paris’

Published

on

Dive into the Morricone-esque universe with this brand-new track from Dead Chic. “Paris,” the lead single from their upcoming album, is an epic romp through a vast, barren, wild landscape. It starts with an exciting rumble, a distant guitar, a simmering vocal… then the gunshot fires! The horde bursts forth, with fuzz and choirs escalating to a climax. “Paris” is the anthem of an adventure on the great trails, no matter the vehicle.

To visually represent this western-style soundtrack, the band enlisted director Anastasja Black along with producer Rowan Biddiscombe, known for the band’s previous music videos. Filmed in the Tabernas Desert in southern Spain, the music video captures the iconic settings of Spaghetti Western cinema. In a spiritual quest, the characters seek their paths, confronting their own limits and those of their environment until they come together for the final climax.

Dead Chic originally formed from the partnership between Andy Balcon and Damien Félix. They met a few years ago while touring with their respective bands (Heymooshaker and Catfish), frequently crossing paths on the road and catching up backstage to discuss music, idols, and the possibility of collaborating. After a few years without crossing paths, they reconnected in the fall of 2020. Before discussing musical influences, Andy and Damien shared visual references, illustrations, and landscapes that would form the foundation and direction of their work. The idea of working together then took a serious turn, and after some exchanges, “Too Far Gone,” their first track, was released in 2022.

They were then joined by Rémi Ferbus on drums (known for his work with Kimberose, Mélissa Laveaux, among others), who had previously collaborated with Andy; and Mathis Akenginon keyboards, a long-time collaborator of Damien in Catfish. Over the years, through tours and travels, the musicians have honed their skills, enriched their cultural knowledge, and defined their individual styles. The combination of the four immediately sparked.

Freeport, NY word-smith Spaceman returns with new single “Mumblecore.” Featuring his former Inner City Kids Collective co-horts ABGOHARD and Producer K3Mal the track lives up to his musical moniker as this genre-bending joint sounds like intergalactic street hustler music.  Head-nodding, hypnotic and at times stereo-rattling, the two lyricists speak gully, distorting the lines between urban city and outer cosmos.

Speaking on the single, Spaceman said “This is the first song in a series I’ve titled “Social Skills” which is both a reference to the three (soon to be four) projects I’ve released in the last few years that feature no other artists and also my willingness to step out of my comfort zone and collaborate with other rappers whose skills I respect. Like irony you know, ‘haha’.”

Enlisting a myriad of different collaborators, the forthcoming singles demonstrate an artist who enjoys flexing in multiple styles while always focusing on his messages and his bars.  Most recently Spaceman released the Annihilation LP which yielded the singles “Law” and “Thrift And Diligence” (links below)
