Leela James Serves Grown Love on New Single What U Need
Leela James knows exactly what she brings to a relationship, and she is not shy about saying so. The soul singer released her new single What U Need on Friday, October 30, 2026, a grown and confident record produced by her longtime collaborator Rex Rideout.
On the song, James makes her case with warmth and certainty. Let me show you your worth, she sings, and me is what you deserve. Speaking about the track, she explained that it is about being somebody’s peace, their partner and their safe place, while still keeping that spark alive. Sometimes, she added, you just have to remind somebody that you have got exactly what they need.
An official music video premiered alongside the single, giving the romantic themes a visual home on her official YouTube channel. The release leans into everything listeners have loved about James for two decades, from her raspy and commanding vocal to storytelling that treats mature love with respect and fire.
Rideout has been part of that story for years. He produced Complicated, which reached number one on the Billboard adult R and B chart in 2021, and his partnership with James continues to anchor her sound in classic soul values while keeping the records current. What U Need follows her 2023 album Thought U Knew and her 2025 project 2BHONEST, a run that has kept her at the center of the grown folks soul circuit.
James is also taking the music to the stage, with tour dates alongside Anthony Hamilton on her schedule this season. What U Need is available now on all major streaming platforms, and it stands as a reminder that few singers deliver a love song with this much conviction.

John Legend Unveils Muse, a New Album Produced in Full by Pharrell Williams
John Legend has opened a new chapter built on an old friendship. The EGOT winning singer, songwriter and producer released his new album Muse on October 23, 2026 through Republic Records. The record was produced in full and co written by Pharrell Williams, and it marks the first complete album the two have made together after more than twenty years of friendship.
Muse is Legend twelfth studio album, a sixteen track collection that weaves together the strands of Black music. The label announcement describes a lush and cinematic body of work that moves through gospel and the standards, doo wop and classic soul, Afrobeat and hip hop, all carried by the piano led writing of Legend and Williams rhythmic imagination.
The project took shape in Paris. In January 2025, Legend and Williams convened at the studio inside Louis Vuitton headquarters, where Williams serves as creative director for Louis Vuitton menswear, and wrote and recorded the album there. The collaboration grew out of an appearance by Legend on the Clipse album Let God Sort Em Out, and Clipse return the favor on Muse, appearing on Bodies On The Floor. Legend unveiled a video for that track on release day.
Williams is present throughout the album, featured on the title track and several other songs, while the lead single Daylight introduced the era ahead of the release. Pray For Ya, Fireflies and Her are among the other titles on a track list that closes with Sail Off.
Legend has said he wanted to shake up the formula of the piano ballads that made him famous, and Muse answers that ambition with strings, horns and rhythm working alongside his voice. The album is available now on streaming platforms, with CD and vinyl editions offered through his official store.
