Murdoch Mysteries Star Thomas Craig Comes Home to Lead “The Miracle of Sheffield”

Published

on

Some roles an actor chases. This one chased Thomas Craig home. The Sheffield-born actor, known worldwide as Inspector Brackenreid in Murdoch Mysteries, returns to his home city to star in the world premiere of Jonathan Maitland’s new play The Miracle of Sheffield: Mum, Dad, Football & Me at the Library Theatre, running 25 March to 23 April 2027.

The play is inspired by Sheffield Wednesday’s extraordinary play-off comeback on 18 May 2023 — a match Craig, a lifelong Wednesday supporter, followed from Toronto, where he films Murdoch Mysteries. The account he wrote afterwards, shared on Owlstalk and published in The Star, caught Maitland’s attention and became the seed of the production.

Craig is both actor and producer on the show, directed by Robert Wolstenholme. Moving between the 1980s and the present day, it explores family, belonging and how football connects generations — a homecoming in every sense. Tickets are on sale now, priced £20–£27.

Tom Cruise in 2026

Tom Cruise is set to receive American cinema’s most prestigious career honor. The American Film Institute has named Cruise the 52nd recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award, recognising a career that has defined the modern blockbuster for more than four decades.

Few actors have shaped the theatrical era the way Cruise has. From his breakout in Risky Business and the phenomenon of Top Gun, through dramatic heavyweight turns in Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men and Jerry Maguire, to the Mission: Impossible franchise — where his commitment to practical stunt work became the industry standard — Cruise has remained the defining movie star of his generation.

The AFI Life Achievement Award, established in 1973, is presented to a single honoree whose body of work has made a lasting contribution to American culture. For Cruise, the tribute caps a run that has consistently championed the big-screen experience, drawing global audiences back into cinemas and setting box-office benchmarks that few performers in history can match.

He joins one of the most exclusive honor rolls in film — a recognition, four decades in, that the mission is far from over.
