Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ Smashes Records: Fastest Tamil Film Ever to Cross ₹500 Crore
At 75, Rajinikanth is still rewriting the record books. His action sequel Jailer 2 has crossed ₹500 crore at the worldwide box office in just six days — the fastest any Tamil film has ever reached the landmark — with trackers putting the six-day global gross at roughly ₹542 crore.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and released worldwide on October 15, the sequel passed the milestone on the strength of a ₹418 crore opening weekend, a festive Dasara-week run in India and an enormous overseas haul of more than ₹200 crore. In six days it has already overtaken the entire lifetime collection of Rajinikanth’s own Coolie and stands as the fourth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, behind only 2.0, Leo and the original Jailer.
The milestone is Rajinikanth’s fourth ₹500-crore film — after 2.0, Jailer and Coolie — a feat no other Tamil star has matched more than once. He returns as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, leading an ensemble that includes Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, S. J. Suryah, Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu, with cameo appearances from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Vijay Sethupathi and Hrithik Roshan.
Produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures with music by Anirudh Ravichander, Jailer 2 is now chasing the biggest target of all: 2.0‘s record as the highest-grossing Tamil film in history.

Tom Cruise Named 52nd Recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award
Tom Cruise is set to receive American cinema’s most prestigious career honor. The American Film Institute has named Cruise the 52nd recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award, recognising a career that has defined the modern blockbuster for more than four decades.
Few actors have shaped the theatrical era the way Cruise has. From his breakout in Risky Business and the phenomenon of Top Gun, through dramatic heavyweight turns in Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men and Jerry Maguire, to the Mission: Impossible franchise — where his commitment to practical stunt work became the industry standard — Cruise has remained the defining movie star of his generation.
The AFI Life Achievement Award, established in 1973, is presented to a single honoree whose body of work has made a lasting contribution to American culture. For Cruise, the tribute caps a run that has consistently championed the big-screen experience, drawing global audiences back into cinemas and setting box-office benchmarks that few performers in history can match.
He joins one of the most exclusive honor rolls in film — a recognition, four decades in, that the mission is far from over.
