Smag På Dig Selv drop exhilarating Better Company live session for ‘Total Full Power Extreme Nuclear Confusion 2000’!
Danish trio Smag På Dig Selv (SPDS) are back to unveil their awesome Better Company live session for ‘Total Full Power Extreme Nuclear Confusion 2000’.
Comprised of two saxophonists and one drummer, Smag På Dig Selv (SPDS) have built an international reputation since 2018 as one of Scandinavia’s most intense and unconventional live acts, blending acoustic instrumentation with techno structures, punk energy, and references to 90s dance culture. Their performances have taken them from major festivals in Europe to SummerStage in Central Park, New York City, as well as showcase platforms such as SXSW, The Great Escape, and Eurosonic.
‘Total Full Power Extreme Nuclear Confusion 2000’ comes from the band’s 2024 debut album ‘SPDS’ and is a perfect example of the intoxicating electronic chaos that the band have become renowned for. Dystopian sax atmospheres give way to hard-hitting bass-loaded beats in a feverish melange of escalating glitchy carnage. The Better Company session for the track, recorded during the band’s first visit to New York in January 2025, is a stripped-back version that shows the band in their element, smashing out this young classic from their back catalogue with jaw-dropping, invigorating flair.
Smag På Dig Selv (SPDS) released their brand new album ‘This Is Why We Lost’ earlier this year to much acclaim, including airplay from BBC 6 Music’s Iggy Pop, Radcliffe & Maconie and Radio X’s John Kennedy, as well as press acclaim from the likes of Notion, Under The Radar, Earmilk and Clash Magazine, the latter giving it a glowing 9/10 review.
The new album has seen Oliver Lauridsen (tenor sax), Thorbjørn Øllgaard (baritone and bass sax), and Albert Holberg (drums) start to take their music and their lives more seriously. Stripping away some of the self-ironic titles and musical choices that may have frequented their previous work, ‘This Is Why We Lost’ features the band’s moms, a nod to minimalist composer Kali Malone, and a Palestinian folk song. Different voices, different stories, all finding space together.
Still, there’s a red line running through everything. This time the band have tried to have things less in an arm’s length. The curiosity is the same, but it’s more focused now — more confident, more open. It feels like a step forward, without letting go of where they came from. Songwriters often draw from personal experience, but what makes Just a Daydream stand out is the way AMBER reshapes those experiences through imagination. Instead of presenting events exactly as they happened, she builds scenes that feel colourful, expressive and full of possibility, giving the songs a distinctive identity from the very beginning.
That approach reflects the idea behind the EP’s title. What begins as a passing thought or a hopeful fantasy gradually develops into something more tangible, carrying listeners through romance, longing, disappointment and, ultimately, self-acceptance. The songs remain connected by that thread, making the EP feel like one continuous conversation rather than a collection of separate ideas.
Musically, AMBER blends soul, jazz, funk and pop touches without allowing any one influence to dominate. The lively pulse of “Say What” explores the confusion that can grow from crossed wires, while “Aromatherapy” offers a gentler close, bringing the emotional journey to a place of calm reflection.
Working with producer Kipper Eldridge, AMBER has created a debut that places storytelling at its heart. Every musical choice supports the atmosphere of the songs, allowing the lyrics and performances to take centre stage. It is an invitation into a creative world where imagination gives everyday emotions a fresh perspective and where even the smallest moments have a story worth telling.
