The New Wellness Trip: Social Saunas, Silent Retreats and Travel Built Around Rest
The wellness trip is getting quieter — and more social. Wellness travel is shifting away from clinical, device-tracked retreats and toward social, lower-stimulation trips, according to a September 29 report from Travel Noire drawing on the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), the Global Wellness Summit’s 2026 Future of Wellness report, and Hilton’s 2026 travel research. Travel Noire, citing GWI data, reports the wellness tourism sector reached $894 billion in 2024.
One driver, per the report, is the social sauna. The Global Wellness Summit names British public saunas as a leading example of “social self-care”: the British Sauna Society counts 147 public saunas in the United Kingdom in early 2025, up from 45 in 2023, figures cited via Fast Company. GWI’s Wellness Tourism Initiative, in its 2026 trends, describes sauna culture moving toward guided heat rituals, communal ceremonies and group contrast-therapy sessions.
Rest itself is the headline motivation. Hilton’s 2026 research found 56% of travelers name rest and recharge as the number-one reason for leisure travel, and the report describes “hushpitality” — travelers deliberately seeking quieter, lower-stimulation trips. Among U.S. respondents cited in the coverage, 67% expressed interest in nature-immersion retreats, 60% in spiritual retreats and 56% in meditation or silent retreats. The same research found 48% plan to add solo time before or after a family trip, and 19% of business travelers said they would choose sleep over socializing on a work trip.
GWI’s initiative also highlights “deep rest” programming built around natural darkness, dawn and dusk, and “cocooning wellness” — shorter countryside or coastal escapes designed to feel restorative without long-haul travel. The institute reports thermal and mineral springs spending rose 11.1% from 2023 to 2024, passing its pre-pandemic level, and GWI’s Beth McGroarty said the social turn responds to how isolated people became after the pandemic. Taken together, the reports describe a traveler trading dashboards and data for atmosphere — shared heat, natural darkness, quiet rooms and other people.

It’s A Secret Med Spa welcomes Houston to its new Post Oak location
It’s A Secret Med Spa celebrated the grand opening of its Houston location at 1800 Post Oak Blvd., Suite 6130, with exclusive daytime specials and a Grand Opening Party on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Located at BLVD Place in the heart of Houston’s Uptown district, the new location officially opened earlier this summer after relocating from Washington Avenue. The celebration marked the next chapter for It’s A Secret in Houston and gave the community an opportunity to explore the new space, meet the Houston team and learn about the med spa’s full range of aesthetic and wellness services.
First-time clients could celebrate throughout the day with 50% off Botox when booked in advance. The Grand Opening Party followed from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring exclusive offers such as 20% off injectables and skincare, 60% off laser hair removal and up to $2,000 off treatments.
The evening event also featured specialty drinks, light bites, a DJ, giveaways and raffle prizes. Guests had the opportunity to meet the Houston providers and learn more about the treatments and services available at the new location.
Attendees could also participate in an interactive Grand Opening Passport Experience. Upon arrival, guests received a passport and visited stations located throughout the med spa’s treatment rooms. At each stop, they could meet providers and learn about featured services. Guests who completed their passports unlocked additional event rewards and raffle opportunities, including the chance to receive 10 complimentary units of Botox to be scheduled and redeemed at a later date.
“We’ve been looking forward to officially celebrating this location with Houston since we opened our doors this summer,” said Garrett Gay, Vice President of It’s A Secret Med Spa. “Post Oak is exactly where we wanted to be, and this event is our opportunity to welcome the community into the space, introduce them to our team and give them the full It’s A Secret experience.”
The Houston location offers It’s A Secret Med Spa’s complete range of aesthetic and wellness services, including injectables, skin rejuvenation, laser treatments, body contouring, wellness offerings and personalized treatment plans.
