Big Pollo Expand UK Presence with Festivals, Live Album and Signature Chichafunky Groove

Published

on

Lima’s Big Pollo are strengthening their connection with UK audiences this summer through a series of high-profile festival appearances and the release of Live In The UK. The long-running collective have become internationally recognised for Chichafunky, their original fusion of psychedelic Peruvian chicha, Latin funk, soul and Afro-Peruvian influences, creating one of South America’s most distinctive contemporary sounds.

Established in 2005 by Renato “Tato” Elera, Big Pollo have spent more than twenty years developing a musical style that reflects Peru’s rich cultural heritage. Supported by Milky Fresh, Jose Timarchi and Bruno Timarchi, the band have released seven albums, including La Chichafunky, San Bartolo Chill and their latest live recording. Their music explores the meeting point of traditional rhythms, urban culture and modern funk while maintaining an unmistakably danceable identity.

The band’s live reputation has grown steadily through tours across Europe and the United States. Earlier appearances at Boomtown Fair introduced British audiences to Chichafunky, while a successful UK tour in 2025 demonstrated the growing appetite for their vibrant performances. This year’s return includes festival sets at Tropical Pressure and WOMAD UK, as well as concerts in London and Edinburgh featuring Las Chanchas and guest performers Gregorio Merchán, Carlos “Kanti” Saldaña and Omar Ríos.

Live In The UK captures the atmosphere that has become central to Big Pollo’s success. Featuring audience favourites such as “Chicha Supersónica” and an energetic version of The Beatles’ “Come Together”, the album reflects the spontaneity and musical chemistry that define the group’s concerts. It serves as both a celebration of the band’s history and an introduction for new listeners discovering their sound.

As UK audiences continue to embrace globally inspired music, Big Pollo offer something refreshingly original. Their blend of powerful musicianship, cultural storytelling and infectious grooves has established them as leading ambassadors for modern Peruvian music, with the band continuing to build momentum as they bring the spirit of Chichafunky to stages across Britain.

Tour Dates:

10 July — Tropical Pressure Festival, Cornwall
25 July — WOMAD UK, Wiltshire
29 July — The Fox & Firkin, London (Big Pollo ft. Las Chanchas)
31 July — Stramash, Edinburgh (Big Pollo ft. Las Chanchas)
