Thunder’s Chet Holmgren to Miss 8-10 Weeks After Treatment for Patellar Tendon Tear
Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren underwent a biological treatment on Friday to address a small patellar tendon tear in his right knee and is expected to return to play in eight to 10 weeks, the team announced.
Holmgren first experienced mild discomfort in his right knee on October 25, during the Thunder’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers. After a series of consultations with specialists, the team determined the biological treatment was the right course, and the procedure was successful, with a full recovery expected.
The 24-year-old Holmgren, a third-team All-NBA and first-team All-Defense selection last season, had averaged 12 points, 9.3 rebounds and three blocks through the opening games this season. An eight-week return would put him back for the Christmas Day game at Minnesota.
Holmgren is the third Thunder starter lost from that same October 25 game against the Clippers. Jalen Williams suffered a fractured left fibula and dislocated ankle and had surgery this week, and Cason Wallace tore the labrum in his left shoulder and underwent surgery on Friday, with both to be re-evaluated before the end of the regular season. Oklahoma City (4-1) hosts the unbeaten Houston Rockets on Saturday, with Alex Caruso also ruled out with a right ankle sprain.
