Every team in the NFC North has a winning record, and the best team in football plays in this division. Sunday, they walk into the loudest test of their season.

The standings: Minnesota Vikings 6-0, Chicago Bears 5-2, Green Bay Packers 5-3, Detroit Lions 4-2.

Minnesota at Detroit, 1:00 PM ET at Ford Field, is a strength-on-strength fight. The Vikings are the NFL’s last unbeaten team, riding 11 straight wins behind the league’s No. 1 scoring defense and a blitz rate of 70.8 percent under coordinator Brian Flores, the highest in football by a wide margin. The Lions counter with the NFL’s No. 2 scoring offense at 30.7 points per game, the league lead in passing yards per game, and quarterback Jared Goff, who owns a 123.3 passer rating against the blitz this season with six touchdowns and no interceptions when teams bring pressure. Something real breaks on Sunday.

Green Bay (5-3) already banked its Week 8 win, beating Carolina on Thursday night, and the Packers now wait to see if the race tightens or opens up.

Chicago (5-2) closes the week on Monday night at Seattle (8:15 PM ET), a road game that would push the Bears to 6-2 and keep them a step behind Minnesota if the Vikings slip in Detroit.

The NFC North is the deepest division in football. This weekend, it starts sorting itself out.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford throws a pass.

The NFC West has a clear boss and a long weekend for everybody chasing them. San Francisco watches Week 8 from the couch with the division’s biggest lead.

The standings: San Francisco 49ers 6-1, Seattle Seahawks 4-3, Los Angeles Rams 3-4, Arizona Cardinals 2-5.

The 49ers, two games clear of Seattle, have the week off after taking their first loss of the season at Atlanta. Nobody in the division can touch them this weekend, so the race is for second place and wild card position.

The Rams host the Chargers at SoFi Stadium at 4:05 PM ET, the first regular season meeting between the two Los Angeles teams in their shared building since New Year’s Day 2023. The Rams (3-4) lead the NFL in total yards, and quarterback Matthew Stafford leads all passers with 1,989 yards. The Chargers (0-6) are the league’s last winless team, with the fewest points scored in football and the most turnovers, 15 of them. The Rams get back to .500 with a win, and Sean McVay’s team has spent all week saying it will not overlook a desperate opponent.

Arizona (2-5) visits the Dallas Cowboys (3-4) at 1:00 PM ET, and Seattle (4-3) closes the week on Monday night at home against the Chicago Bears (8:15 PM ET), a game with real wild card weight for both conferences.

San Francisco is in control. Week 8 decides who gets to call themselves the challenger.
