Snoh Aalegra Sets the Terms on New Single ‘Just Friends’

Snoh Aalegra is two weeks out from a new album, and she is setting the terms early. Her new single “Just Friends” is out now, the latest preview of Legendary Love, her fourth studio album, arriving November 13.

The Swedish born singer has built one of the most devoted followings in modern R&B on a voice that sounds like it was poured, not recorded, and “Just Friends” sits right in that pocket: a slow burning record about a line two people keep pretending they are not crossing.

Legendary Love is her first album in three years, and the rollout has been steady, with the vinyl already up for pre-order alongside the singles. If “Just Friends” is the temperature of the record, November 13 cannot come fast enough.

“Just Friends” is streaming now on all platforms.

Ty Dolla $ign Teams With MK on “Obsession” and Unearths a YG Vault Track in a Busy October

Ty Dolla $ign has had the kind of October that underlines why he remains the most in-demand collaborator in R&B and hip-hop. On October 16, he joined house heavyweight MK on the new single “Obsession,” a club-ready record that pairs MK’s dancefloor production with Ty’s unmistakable hook work. The song landed as one of the headline singles of its release week.

A week later, on October 23, he reached in the opposite direction: into the vault. “Relax (2009),” his early collaboration with YG, officially arrived on streaming services for the first time. The record dates back to YG’s 2009 mixtape “The Real 4Fingaz,” years before either artist broke nationally, and it documents a partnership that later produced records like “Toot It and Boot It.” Hearing it remastered for the streaming era is a reminder of how far back the two Los Angeles artists’ chemistry goes.

The releases come while Ty is back on the road. He is supporting Bryson Tiller on the Neo Trapsoul Tour alongside Majid Jordan and Austin Millz, a 61-date Live Nation run. The tour plays Portland’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum tonight, October 29, then Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on October 30 and Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena on November 1.

The October run sits on top of a catalog few of his peers can match. From his own records — “Paranoid,” “Or Nah” and “Blasé” — to collaborations like “Psycho” with Post Malone and “CARNIVAL” with Ye, Ty has spent a decade shaping the sound of other people’s biggest moments as well as his own, with writing and production credits stretching from Drake and Rihanna to Mariah Carey and Beyoncé. His solo albums, from “Free TC” through “Beach House 3” and “Featuring Ty Dolla $ign,” built the foundation that the feature run now stands on.

It has been a decade-plus run for the Atlantic Records singer, songwriter and producer, whose catalog now carries more than 50 RIAA gold and platinum certifications. October showed the full range of it: a brand-new dance collaboration, a piece of West Coast history finally on streaming, and arena stages in three cities in four nights.
