Sam Smith and Jacob Lusk Turn ‘My Guy’ Into a Duet

Published

on

Sam Smith stands alone on a dark stage in a single spotlight, seen from behind, in black and white.

Some songs are big enough for two voices. Sam Smith has released a duet version of “My Guy” featuring Jacob Lusk, out now via Capitol Records, and the pairing is as good as it sounds on paper.

“My Guy” was the lead single from Smith’s fifth album Hazel Eyes, which arrived in August, a slow burning love song co-written with Feist, Simon Aldred and Shahzad Ismaily. In the new version, Lusk, the former lead singer of Gabriels, takes the second verse, bringing the power and vulnerability that made him a scene stealer everywhere from Coachella to his work with Honey Dijon.

The duet was born on stage: Lusk made a surprise appearance during Smith’s set at the historic London Coliseum as part of the To Be Free residency, and an official live video captures that performance. Two of the most distinctive voices in modern soul, trading lines on a song about total adoration, in one of London’s grand old rooms. It does not get much better than that.

The duet version of “My Guy” is streaming now on all platforms.

Gracie Abrams Drops New Single ‘Here You Come, There You Go’

Gracie Abrams performs on stage in a white dress, singing into a microphone under blue lights.

Gracie Abrams does not do quiet releases anymore. Her new single “Here You Come, There You Go” is out now, the latest taste of the deluxe edition of Daughter from Hell, which arrives November 20.

Gracie announced it the day before in her own words: “Here You Come, There You Go is out tomorrow. I love this song so much.” The single caps a huge week for her in New York, where she has been everywhere from Saturday Night Live to the Brooklyn Museum.

Her writing has always lived in the almost: almost said it, almost stayed, almost left. A title like “Here You Come, There You Go” is that whole worldview in seven words, and it is exactly why her audience keeps growing. Nobody soundtracks the revolving door of a situationship like Gracie Abrams.

“Here You Come, There You Go” is streaming now on all platforms. Daughter from Hell (Deluxe) follows on November 20.
