Veeraj The Artiste Releases “Obeah” Music Video

Trinidad and Tobago’s Veeraj The Artiste releases his debut single, “Obeah.” The song is high energy and makes you want to groove. The record really depicts the sounds that are heard in the Caribbean and reflects Caribbean culture overall. “Obeah” is of the genre, Chutney Soca, which is meld of various genres of music.
“Obeah” is somewhat about the track’s title. “Obeah” is a spellcasting or sorcery traditional of a subculture within the Caribbean. However, the song isn’t necessarily an ode to witchcraft. The song talks about how women can cast a spell on men and do rituals to obtain a man’s affection. The song is meant to be more humorous and lighthearted, which the music video helps to portray and emphasize.
The music video, directed by Keegan Taylor and Nicole Greene, brings the story to life. It showcases the couple at the restaurant while different rituals are going on in the background. The visual and song cleverly portray a unique, fresh perspective on witchcraft.
The song’s fun, upbeat tempo makes the song so infectious. “Obeah” was produced by Maha Productions. Vedesh Sookoo penned the track, and Natalie Yorke provided back up vocals. Although some find witchcraft or magic taboo, “Obeah” does a great job of speaking about the topic in a manner that makes it blither and more digestible. Press play on “Obeah,” and let the song cast a spell on you and enchant you.
