VELVET MOON Shares Nostalgic New Single ‘A Love Song’

Stockholm-based indie pop trio VELVET MOON has unveiled their latest single, “A Love Song“, released on October 11th, 2024 via Argle Bargle Studios. Following the success of their previous singles “Hymn” and “Daylight”, “A Love Song” continues to build anticipation for their forthcoming album, expected in 2025. Known for their evocative and timeless sound, VELVET MOON has amassed over 15 million streams, captured the hearts of fans worldwide, and graced stages like The Great Escape festival. With their latest offering, the trio takes listeners on a nostalgic journey through the synth-driven landscape of 80s-inspired pop, delivering a track that is both danceable and emotionally stirring.
“A Love Song” is a heartfelt tribute, written in the wake of personal loss. The band crafted the track during a trip to Palma, shortly after the passing of a dear friend. In a poetic homage, they reflected: “The best ones are taken early. And so were you, Peder. Your wings touched everyone. Your laughter will live within us.” The melancholic undertones of the song, paired with its pulsating rhythms, perfectly capture the delicate balance between celebration and sorrow.
Musically, the track is a masterclass in blending influences from the past with modern indie pop sensibilities. The song’s lush synths, boxy kicks, and soaring guitars transport listeners to the golden era of 80s dance music, evoking the sonic spirit of Fleetwood Mac, The Eurythmics, and Cannons. The huge cymbals and gated reverb bring a sense of grandeur, while vocalist Sandra Bjurman’s rich, emotive delivery ties it all together with a refreshingly contemporary touch. If you’re searching for a track that combines the emotional pull of Hungry Eyes with the modern shimmer of synthpop, A Love Song hits the mark.
Sandra’s vocals and lyricism, drawn from everyday experiences and deeper societal reflections, resonate powerfully against the intricate musical backdrop created by bandmates and producers Stefan Örn and Johan Glössner. The chemistry within the trio is undeniable, allowing them to craft songs that are intimate yet grand, simple yet layered with meaning.
As VELVET MOON gears up for their 2025 album release, “A Love Song” serves as a perfect teaser for what’s to come.

While more of a behind-the-scenes player DJ Design’s (aka Keith Griego) work has had a sizable imprint on the history of modern hip-hop. As a DJ/Beatmaker and visual artist he has contributed production and art since the late 90’s for notables including The Beastie Boys, Madlib, A.G., Foreign Legion, Rasco, Peanut Butter Wolf and Phat Kat.
As a visual artist, his high point of work with the label was his design of the 12” vinyl cover for Lootpack member Madlib’s side project Quasimoto. The cover for “Microphone Mathematics” featured Design/Griego’s visual representation of Lord Quas as a sort of alien aardvark, which was adopted by the artist and has since become one of the most iconic and enduring
characters in the game today.
